Which one is Sida cordifolia?
    #23552580 - 08/18/16 08:23 AM (7 years, 5 months ago)

Hello! I'm happy to have found this forum. Ethnobotany is one of my hobbies and I hope to have some nice discussions on this interesting topic here :smile:

I need some help - a little bit of taxonomy: I got both of these plants sold as Sida cordifolia (as seeds) but they could obviously not be of the same species, they look too different.

Sida 1:
* The branching section

* The leafs

* The nodes/internodes

* The whole plant

Sida 2:
* The branching section

* The leafs

* The (relatively hidden) nodes/internodes

* The whole plant

*... and the happy little flowers :smile:

It would be nice if somebody can help me who is smarter than me :smile:

As a matter of fact that bottom one is definitely Sida too.

Hm I believe I have seen my second sida on this forum too. The one with the big leafes. But the google image search is not very conclusive too. Maybe because in India, where the plant originates from, it is only known by the local name "bala" and there are more than just one species that are called by that name.  I got the first sida from a shop called Rühlemann's and I got more batches from two other shops specialised in ethnobotanical seeds and hemp seeds. All the seeds from the ethnobotany shops looked the same (shaped a little bit like kidneys) the ones from Rühlemann's looked different.

ps.: This was the thread with the similar/same sida: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/1972270/fpart/1/vc/1

... and the seeds from the second sida looked exactly like this:

Ok that would be cool :smile:
The smaller heartshaped sida produces more and more flowers. The seedpots of this one look cylinder-shaped. The big slender sida didn't produce any flowers yet :undecided:  Hm could it be that the slender one is Sida rhombifolia?
