Do I need to worry about my Pedros following heavy rain?

I finally got some cuttings to root and for a while I had them under an umbrella to keep them dry since I kept having problems with root rot. After the roots were established I read it was ok for them to be rained on, but now I am having second thoughts. We had some very heavy rain here recently and they got very wet. I am using a 50% pealite, 50% normal soil mix. Should this be ok?

As long as they have some roots just make sure they dry out fully before they get wet again and they should be fine.

Yeah they should be fine, it takes a minute for them to rot.
Even if they did rot, you can just cut the bottom off, let it callous, and plant again, but you should be fine.

Mine have been through some pretty intense rain (like torrential thunderstorms that lasted 3-4 days) and seem pretty alright. Also when its not raining humidity is generally above 70 percent in the summer so I think they are pretty resistant. One started to rot at the end of last summer but I think it got better over the winter and has done well this summer. I used a similar soil mix to yours. If they have well established roots then I wouldn't worry about it.

They've been dealing with this torrential Louisiana rain and seem fine. They're tolerant of moisture, just not for long periods at a time.

Cacti are made to store water when it is available. A short term problem is that cacti can sometimes store so much water that they split.

This happened to two of my lophs in March 2012 - 8" of rain in as many hours.
But they recovered completely.
