LFH Design: Any Ideas for How to Make a Detachable Hood? Fasteners? Other?
    #23550091 - 08/17/16 02:12 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

I want to have a detachable hood for my LFH.

This will require a way to create a good seal between the filter/fan assembly and the hood each time. Luckily I have procured access to a table saw.

Also, my hood may hang over the table edge a few inches, so I want it to be sturdy.

One obvious design would be to use bolts with wing nuts to hold them together and some type of simple gasket material between them.

Something more elegant would be nice. Surely there is some kind of fastener for hanging things flush. Or maybe I can use bungees on the sides instead of bolts.

Any ideas?

Dude, make it like normal with screws and silicone, if you really need to take it apart, it will, the silicone is not like glue.

But if you must, take a look at some professional laboratory units, they are built to be serviced.

I'd like to build it all as one unit but it is going to be huge. I won't be able to move it around if I build it as one piece.

So far, "draw latches" have been suggested in a DIY cabinetry forum. They are along the lines of what I had in mind, I just had no idea what to call them
