Girlfriend... I hate her new tattoo!

Why why why is this happening. I can't believe it every time I see it. My gorgeous partner who has perfect skin has inked this hideous thing onto her back! She told me she wanted to get this tattoo for a long time and showed me. I thought it was OK but I always encourage her to do that stuff and never said anything bad - very supportive. Anyway she has a "tattoo artist" friend who is going to do it for her - great! A discount!
Wrong. This is some amateur who is still LEARNING TO DRAW. They didn't do it at a studio of course. I guess they decided to make the image 4x larger and blacken in huge parts of it. It has tons of mistakes. The dimensions on critical parts are way off. The lines and curves are not even FUCKING CLOSE to where they should be. FUCK. Now I have to look at this fucking shit every time I see her back.
I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO GETS TO SEE THIS TATTOO UP CLOSE EVERYDAY.
I wish it was a dream. I wish I could go back in time because I would dish out $1,000 for her to have this done right. It was a great idea and now some no body with a tattoo gun has gotten some good practice in. It pains me. I feel like I could have done something. It makes me sick to think of people seeing this thing and judging her because of it. She has a good head on her shoulders and this is just...horrible.
hey at least she likes it!
No I have not and will not say anything. I will let this fester inside of my before I ever say anything against it. I am afraid my words will be the spark that sets the fire of her hatred towards this abomination.
I dated a chick with 1/3 her body tattooed. At least her bad tattoos blended in.

Wow man. That's one hell of a selfish attitude, and a very shallow one at that.
If her arm got deformed in a car accident would you be on here whining about the fact you have to look at it too?

I think in that case I would be too ashamed of my feelings to even make such a post. I know this is awful it's why I made it anonymous. I just needed to vent some of this stuff out to help me process. Your words have really quelled me...Thank you. I'm so glad I didn't say something out of selfishness to her. I know I was going to have to get over this but now I feel like I can go to her and not let it bother me because I know and always knew it was me that was the problem.

If you love her, let it go, enjoy even the ugliness of the tattoo, know that love is everywhere and goes beyond what you see. Perhaps one day she'll get it covered up or removed. In the future it'll probably be cheap. So just relax and enjoy this perfect moment right now!

A tattoo on the back is a bad idea in general. It should attract and not be distracting.

I have to agree with him that irresponsibly done large tattoos can be a shame, especially when the tattoo wasn't an accident like a mangled arm would be.
Even if she likes it now, it's only a matter of time before she see's someone else's professionally done tattoos and notices that hers is poorly done.
But it's best not to ever stress over bad tattoos. It shouldn't bother OP for too long.

JSB I remember hearing your wedding day story once before and I can see the sentiment within those tattoos. It's a cute story to say the least.
trees, that's what gets me the most. Body art is a powerful statement to some eyes. I don't want her to resent the thing because it brings her prejudice and ridicule. But really these are my own thoughts projected onto her because I am the one who is too fearful of getting a tattoo for these reasons and more.
She says she loves it and with sincerity, too. She's a strong one and I don't doubt she will love it for a long while if not ever.

Just let your feelings subside and stay quiet.
As much as I usually agree with JSB, this comparison was uncalled for. Getting a huge tattoo from someone obviously not skilled is indeed very regrettable and not an accident. And he indeed is the main person to be effected at the moment. It makes sense to beat yourself up over such a decision, to learn from it and to value your natural beauty from then on.
Having an extremity crippled is something that very rarely happens from knowingly taking that risk and even a leg without a foot or a hand with no fingers is your own body and not some alien element an ugly tattoo is. Only kids and strangers are initially alienated by a disfiguration, as it's unusual to them. A crippled body part is something you and your significant other will learn to love again, as there is nothing to be gained in moaning your fate. Acceptance of a disability in your partner and embracing some stupid decision he/she made has almost nothing in common.
That's comparing a mouse to an elephant here and most likely one of the worst things to suspect a person of. Ouch!

honestly op I don't think it's selfish to not like something your partner does. I hate tattoos in general, but a bad tattoo is enough for me to to lose interest in prospectives. In an established relationship though it would just be something to put up with, like a bad habit or something

Why do you have to stare at her back? Are you doing it doggy style or putting it in her butt?

Are you kidding? I very much enjoy a woman's back, its artistic and soft and hard and bony and muscly and fatty and pretty much every aspect of a human being that is enjoyable condensed into like three square feet. I would take a pretty back over a pretty set of legs every day of the week

Agreed, I see how your post could be perceived as selfish, but that would definitely anger me. Having to look at an ugly tattoo is only a small part of the issue, for me it would be that she was dumb (or naive) enough to let someone do that. Maybe it is just purely aesthetic, but she still let some novice do something to her body that will leave a permanent reminder of her actions.
I see people with shitty tattoos all the time, its their body and theyre free to do with it as they like, but I still think it says a lot about the person. If they truly love the piece, more power to them, but most people I know just buy into the current tattoo fad. Not to say tattoos themselves are a fad, just that SO many people feel the need to get one just cause everyone else has one. That shit pisses me off, if you want a tattoo, get it for yourself, not because everyone is doing it

There was this girl I was pal'ing around with at this resturant I worked at. Just friends, it wasnt going to cross that line but one day she came running up to me "Look at this!" and lifted the back of her shirt up over her shoulders...
I shit you not, the outline and some work of a giant demon thing covering her entire back.. I kind of in a shocked manner got out, "whooaa, wow"... in my head, it was "what the fuck did you just do to yourself? You're insane"..
I didnt stick around long enough to see it too completion, I had places to be, but even if the best tattoo person on earth did it, it was horrendous...fucking-horrendous...
In fact, getting "Fucking Horrendous" tattooed across her shoulder blades would have been less horrendous than what she did. Blew my mind man..

It's healed up now and the scabbing/peeling is gone. I recommended things to get touched up in it and she agrees. Looking at it doesn't bother me anymore either. In the end I'm just happy I have someone to love.

Sounds like the the logical conclusion to a shock about an SO's body modification. Her skin still feels and tastes the same, even a moderately dimmed light would totally solve that problem
I have a pretty strong fetish surrounding tattoos so I would probably be much more intense than you are about it. I also don't mind a little chubbiness in a girl (soft girls are just more fun to touch) but there are millions of men that would be very turned off if their girlfriend/wife gained like fifteen pounds. Different strokes
