I just picked some beautiful KSSS off two cakes and this is what I'm left with...I'm wondering why all the pins are covered with white fuzz, and check out the crazy rhizo growth coming off the one cake they look like little hands....

The pic in my signature is the largest specimen from the first haul...

pic #4 looks like aborts. if they dont show growth in 24 hours, then ya aborts
the crazy rhizo growth is the mycelium responding to the presence of bacteria. the bacteria will weaken the culture and possibly cause it to mold over early. it should still produce fruits, but maybe less than the others.

Hey thanks for the fast response!!
The cakes with the crazy rhizo growth are pinning like crazy, but they don't smell bad at all...and these cakes all colonized ultra fast 6 of the 7 completed consolidation in five weeks and the seventh was an ultra aggressive PE that completed consolidation in four weeks...the rest of the PE are ready to go into the SGFC now except for some slow stragglin jars. I thought everything was going well but I guess not lol...

bacterial cakes do not necessarily smell like anything. there are many different species of bacteria with many different characteristics. like I said, it will still produce fruits, but you might see reduced yield and early mold contamination. just a heads up, though. keep your eye on that cake.

I will def do that, I really appreciate the advice and I will keep a close eye on that little lady.
For my first go through I'm pretty happy, but I obviously need to refine my sterile techniques. But practice makes perfect!
