just found out that i have a felony charge on my record from last year for possession of a controlled substance (mushrooms), but the charges got dropped and the case dismissed before going to trial. Now i have the pleasure of explaining that to the company im trying to get job with. Its fucking bullshit. No conviction, no indictment, nothing., but there it is plain as day on my record. If it was dismissed, why the fuck is it still there. Shit might blow my chances with this job. I got dismissal papers, but still it doesnt look good. Fucking A, im gonna be so upset if i get turned down cause of this.

What got them to drop it?
Genuine curiosity, if you don't want to elaborate that's cool too.

court got reset and reset for abut 3, 4 months waiting on the test results and when the test results came back, they dismissed the case. Im assuming they didnt store it or dry it properly and it likely molded or got gross or something; inconclusive. which would make sense since they attempted to store and dry in an open paper grocery bag. The docket didnt specify, just said 'see state's file'.

When i was young some guy sold his gun to some sketchy people and they pistol whipped someone. the police went to the owner. The owner didnt want to snitch on the skethy people so he said that he sold it to my dad. So my dad got arrested and even though everything got sorted out it still says that my dad was arrested for a hand gun on his record. And hand guns are a really big deal in canada. He had nothing to do with it but the police probably assume that he is armed and dangerous. It sucks op but there is nothing you can do.

You weren't convicted of a felony, tell them their background check is BS.

Thats not gonna fly. Plus i already explained to them about the dismissal and sent a copy to them. Guess ill find out tomorrow if its ok. On top of that i have 2 misdemeanor charges for possession of marijuana. I really dont think the misdemeanors are much of a concern, but on top of the felony is what im worried about. Really want this job.

I have a "deferred adjudication" charge on my record in texas. If I pay a fee I can get it completely erased, or I can save some money and do most of the paperwork and file it myself. It sucks because it really means no charge, but one has to pay another person to "erase" it form a background check. Made me almost get kicked out of the app process for nursing school. I had to explain it in person to the investigative unit for apps when I applied.
I checked no for arrests, convictions etc...because I was told that I was clear with no record. The board thought I lied to them so I had to go in person to explain. Still have a "with restrictions" thing on my license because the guy was dick and said I he "had to" leave that there. I'll write to them and appeal to get it taken off when I get my RN though. Hopefully enough time has passed and I get a break.

they turned me down. They said the drug charge was too recent. IDK if they're talking about the felony or the misdemeanor. 2 misdemeanors for pos of marij in 2010 and 2013.. Im assuming its the felony thou, even thou its dismissed. They said try again in 6 months. Maybe i can get it expunged by then. However, im just gonna apply at the next company for now

if the charges got dropped, you never got convicted. don't sweat it. if it ends up fucking you, let us know because i'm more or less in the same boat as my charges got dropped like trex with "withheld ajudication" they sent me a letter at the end of everything saying things had been dropped by the state.

It did fail me. Ither that or the misdemeanors. I without hesitation applied at two other companies and I'm already scheduled to go to school for them pending another background check. I told them what was up thou

Ok, so there's your answer. Your previous charges that are on your record are probably holding you back, not the ones that were dropped, misdemeanor or not. This is just my speculation though

yeah. i called a recruiter and explained the situation. When i told him about the misdemeanor he called me a drug dealer and said i needed rehabilitation and then hung up the phone. nothing i said was even remotely aggressive and i dont think i deserved to get treated like that. Dude could've kept his composure and talk to me nice, but i guess im demonized now because of a fucking drug charge

he was just a recruiter that refereed you to other companies, and no. I woudnt work for someone arrogant like him. Im actually considering applying for like jobs in Colorado where they might be more lenient towards a weed charge

Same thing happened with my job. I actually went to court cause me and friend were stealing yugioh cards in toysrus and selling them to card shops for weed. This was 6 years ago though. I made atleast 500$ from it. Well long story short this time I was just tagging along and he had the backpack and he was grabbin them, i was looking out. Managers stopped us at the door which scared the shit outta us and there was already a cop waiting. So he grabbed both of us, friend was in the tank/jail that night and i got picked up by my parents cause i was a minor.
It was grand theft (around 400$ in retail cards). He was found guilty and I was found non guilty. I wasnt convicted/indicted or anything. I just received 6 months probation from the judge for hanging out with those people and let it be a lesson.
We never stopped chilling though. Me and him were super tight, we grew up together. I felt bad cause he hit me up at like 11am and was like cmon yo just real quick,,and I said sure why not. It fucked with us but we got over it. He was the one who arranged it and all.
Probation was checkup once a month and after 3 months PO saw my honor roll grades and figured it was stupid to see him cause I was with someone who was stealing yugioh cards so he let me go after 3 checkups. The shittiest part of it all was the fear of drug testing. I never actually got tested, which was very ballsy, but I missed out on blue dream and hashish .. soo much weed .. it was at the beginning of december so missed all the holiday smoke. Really sucked to be sitting in my cousins car with a packed roor being passed and all I can do is smell the smoke.
Well I just applied for a job 4 months ago (got hired and happily working) that did background checks. (I also worked at sams club previously , which is walmart, and they never found this on the background check) To be honest, I completely forgot about this incident. It was forever ago and nothing happened. We were young. Then after a week of no call backs from the interview I figured I was fucked. But I get a letter saying Please explain what this is.
All it said was that I was at court for grand theft and that I was not convicted on anything. I told them that I was 16 with a friend who was taking yugioh cards .. lol .. was just company policy to ask formally.
So to you OP, I dont think anything is permanetly erased. There has to be a database where everything that is entered is automatically entered into a secret database, for feds and the fbi and stuff vs state cops. You know the guys who can just look up any information. I was told that it was 100% expunged erased and cleaned. And it was. Just a thorough check from a company pulled it up. But I wouldnt worry. Most of it is formal, and if you actually meet the manager and just tell him it was in the past its not like hes gonna make a big deal outta it.
