free cable

Ok so anyway, we've been getting free cable since we moved in 10 years ago or so. It seems like the linemen, who were supposed to disconnect the circuit when the last owners cancelled, didn't. As a result, we plugged our TV's in and its always just worked, no fault of ours. Well, it appears something in our house that is connected to the cable has gone bad and is pushing voltage back into their network, so the cable guy shows up today saying something is causing interference and when they disconnect the line from the mounted splitter on the outside of the house the problem goes away. He then says hes gonna replace the line from the pole to the house and see if it makes a difference, then he would like to come in and quick test the equipment. (unplug each device till it goes away) Well, I'm not about to let him in the house, we have no business with comcast they don't need to be in the house. Now if they want to just disconnect the cable at the poll like they should have done ages ago its also fine by me, I'm not about to climb the poll to reconnect it or anything and will probably just get cable or satellite TV, no biggie.
I guess I'm wondering what the tech should be told when he comes back to check the inside. The way I see it something along the lines of, "I'm sorry but we don't have any business with your company, but feel free to use the backyard to get to the poll and fix what you need".
It's pretty apparent we knew that we were receiving the cable for free, but not everyone gives you back the five you accidental gave them with there change either. There may be moral issues, but they can't claim you stole the five for the cashiers incompetence.
The service has never come in very good, fuzzy and you can tell there is defiantly some kind of interference somewhere, think something like, "Well, I don't know why were getting it, its always looked horrible like it was trying to be scrambled but worked good enough to watch so we did. I know people who will listen to scrambled PPV because you can hear it and thats good enough for them, Whats the difference? We had a cable jack in the house and decided to plug it in to see what would come in and thought this was what you'd get without service. It was good enough for us. If it was supposed to be disconnected totally then you guys should have done that when the last subscribers cancelled, right?"
Either way I believe the defense should come back around to the incompetence of the previous linemen who should have done their jobs correctly.
Also, there are no cheater boxes or anything like that, their is nothing inside the house causing us to get cable for free, it is definitely an outside thing, again seems like that would have some kind of impact on our liability.
Anyway what do you guys think, other then, time to call some lawyers and see if I can get a free phone consultation.

just let him in to check it out. chances are he wont care that you have been getting free cable, and even if he does, the worse case scenario is that he will disconnect your cable. they cant bill you for anything because you didnt sign a contract. it is entirely possible that he will just fix the problem and you will have better free cable than ever before.

Free cable is great isn't it? I have a similar situation, and it pleases me no end that those thieving clueless bastards (*coughcoughCharterCablecoughcough) are getting screwed. They're the only cable company in town and they charge almost $50 for basic!

a lot of cable guys are cool and don't care at all....i'm paying for a cable internet service, and not cable tv, which they charge extra for, and the cable guy actually gave me a free splitter and told me they just charge extra and don't tell anyone that you get tv with it anyway.

Around here the'll let you get cable internet without the tv, but you dont get tv either. you get channels 4, 3, and 2, and channel 79-75 - You end up gettin 2 major locals and E! (3 = fox, 2 is cbs, and e! is 4) 79 is an blacked out channel, nothing is assigned to it, two shopping channels, bible channel, and the food channel 78-75 respectivly.
