Perlite or Vermiculite in a Shotgun Terrarium

I'm looking at doing my first grow with the pf tek method with dunking and casing with vermiculite once birthed and I'm pretty sure I understand everything very well.
My only questions I have are the following.
For my terrarium is it best to use perlite or vermiculite at the bottom? Or should I use a mixture or layer vermiculite followed by perlite on top? I've read both used and understand the difference between the two items and fully understand they can not be substituted in your inoculation jars. This is strictly for the usage at the bottom of my terrarium for moisture retention/release that my cakes will sit on.
My other question from all my studying is, do I need a drip shield? In many pf tek grows I read before dunking became a thing it was bad to get your mycelium wet. But in all the grows I read about that included dunking this wasnt an issue or even mentioned. Is that still a thing thats needed or can that be ignored?
Any experienced help would be appreciated!

-------------------- The biggest trip of my life was realizing all of the events and actions described in posts made by this account were never real and had never actually happened, but were instead the delusional ramblings of a severely mentally ill human being. I just had to move on for my own good. I love you all.

Thank you for your replies, and thank you amidogen for that link. That link is even more in depth than my current bookmarked for reference.
I was pretty sure the drip shield thing was out of date info but its nice to see from others my thinking was correct.
And sorry TC I didnt bookmark them, they seemed odd thats why I asked about it. Same with the drip shield as the first video I ever watched stressed on not getting your cakes wet at all and thats exactly what you want to do when you birth them.
