four of the jars one of my newer strains are in I bought from reputable site. And I've noticed that their jars were very dry compared to mine. I thought they were too dry. Especially when the growth in my jars of the same strain is 3 to 5 times more growth than the site jars. But I will say that the growth in the jars from the site looks a lot more like the pictures of your clean jars. With no grains being squished against the glass. The mycelium seems slightly thinner also.
The jars from the site have the whole recipe. Gypsum and coffee or something. I got my gypsum too late to use in in these but will be in future jars.

What ratio of sub did you use for that one jar? I have one jar finishing soon and want to spawn it.

This look done? Should I shake?

I usesd a 1:1. But i wanted my first jar of my season as quick as possible. I dont reckomend that. I think most reckomend like a 3:1 or 4:1. But pasty should tell you. Hes more exp than me with bulk. I have years of brf exp. this is my first with this stuff
What reasons is it trash. Is it to dry? Its wheat berries. Thwy dont look like rye when done. Most of my jars are rye. I will wait a bit longer and then follow your instructions. It kills me to trash one of my first. But as im getting all my agar supplies within the next few days. Im not worried about having to wait until spore print to continue this strain.

That jar is a mess of bacteria and possibly yeast. I wouldn't do anything with that except dump it in the trash and wash the jar. Check that your cycle is at least 90 min and that your inoculate is clean.

That doesn't look the best but you can still spawn it. Don't use it to expand tho.

Really?
What looks wrong with it in you opinion? It's MS to grain. I know not advised. But j really took a lot of effort to not make overly wet which looks like I did a good job at....In real life I literally see nothing except white mycelium and some grains. Nothing looks dire wrong to me, so I don't know what to work on to improve it.

Mycologist217 said: I don't want to rain on your parade, because your hypothetical grow will probably fruit, but those jars are riddled with Bacteria...you can tell because of the chunky thick look of the mycelium...the patchy growth...and the way the kernels get pressed up against the glass....here's some more info from my friend, Mad Season
Quote:
Mad Season said: I think we're talking about how it's sticky and starchy, which is more a prep problem. 65 minutes is a little low though. After changing up to 120 minutes with wbs I was having MUCH less wet grains.

Mad Season said: Oh dear lord no. I'll get a quote from when I had this debate awhile back. There's a big difference between fully colonized and cleanly colonized.
Quote:
Mad Season said: Well there's a difference between colonized and cleanly colonized.
This is colonized:
Lots of members have noticed cobweb and trich from jars that look like this or better. Wet spots are bacteria. Not wet grains or wet spots. To colonize cleanly is the hardest. I had to change my pc times to 2 hours to reduce it.
This is (ALMOST) cleanly colonized, that's how hard it is to have it completely clean. This isn't even completely clean:

This is completely clean spawn:

Anyone who's done this for awhile will testify this is the hardest part of the hobby and is what will dictate the success or failure of bulk.
All those jars had a mushroomy smell. A miniscule amount of bacteria will get overpowered by the mushroom musk. Especially if it is covering the surface
