After my 15th side or so of listening to great tripping music, I realized that I completely forgot about my favorite band back in 3-5th grade; The Doors. Holy shit. The doors are the greatest psych band I have ever come across. Jims lyrics are so gnarly and can be so powerful while on LSD, especially when you hear those insane drum patters/beats/etc. and I'm not taking like mainstream Doors music either, im taking about their super psychedelic shit. Any other bands from the late 60's comparable? I know of many, just curious if im missing out on a few more

The Doors were one of the best, but then there's always the Elevators.

- Tracks 5, 6, 7 of Garcia will (if you listen attentively while not moving around, lying down, will take you BACKWARDS through the birth process [baby cries, THEN you hear the old-fashioned *slap* because you're being taken back in time to the place beyond...]) WARNING: This has frightened those who are not in AWE. I recommend not listening UNTIL you're peaking so as not to ruin the effect.

The velvet underground are pretty great too! They have that dark psychedelic vibe as the doors did but also have a happy psych side too! The doors ate my favorite band and after hearing the velvet underground I just fell in love with them! Key songs are: Venus in furs Herion

There is a lot from back in the day! Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful dead, Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, and many more! I love classic psychedelic rock! Def timeless music.

Jim wasn't writing all the songs ya know. Years ago in Eugene OR down under the highway onramps I heard him singing "love me two times", of course Morrison was supposed to be dead by then but I swear it was him. That wasn't a Morrison song though, it was by Krieger, but I guess he liked it pretty damn well.
But I agree about the psychedelic aspects, one of the strongest bands that way. Others, well known or not - well hell, Janis Joplin with Big Brother waxes pretty psychedelic at times, try Camel (though started in '71), the Band, Humble Pie, Gong (psychedelic to the max), Neil Young (with and without Crazy Horse), Traffic of course, and Steve Hillage who's put out some amazing psychedelic music best represented perhaps by the Fish Rising album. Well to name a few.

Oh yeah, and if you never heard all of it check out the only Blind Faith album from '69. Clapton's playing to me started out not seeming too psychedelic on this one, but the more I listened to it the more there was, like psychedelic music oughta be - it rewards those who are looking for it. Listening to it while tripping you'll experience the hyperdimensional aspects unfold as the music mutates in your ears...
