Mastering the pinset
    #2354033 - 02/19/04 10:41 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

I have a few questions, mainly about pins. How do I get an even pinset without all the abort nonsense, so at least most of the fruits will become mature. Aborts are cute, but they are small and annoying to pick off. On my first cake, i got a good amount of mature mushrooms, and tons of aborts. Right now a new cake is being dunked and I'm wondering what I can do to ensure the best pinset. Does the dunk and roll teqnique provide what I'm looking for? From what I understand rolling the cake in dry verm after being dunked will avoid tons of aborts right?

Another question, I was wondering if it is better for the cakes to be in a larger container all together. Right now I have my cakes in little seperate containers, this worked fine with my last cake, but I was wondering if there is any advantage to putting them all in one. Thats all for now, peace.

an even pinset will not eliminate aborts. you'll get less aborts if your environmental conditions are right and your substrate contains enough food and water to support all developing mushrooms.

Some strains abort more than others... some abort more in the first flushes... like B+ and OI.

if you want to lower the amount of aborts you get, try cloning

if you want an even pinset...start casing..even if you get aborts..you'll get many more full grown mushies than aborts...

doubtfull on the using a ceramic bowl...it would work..but the mushies would be quite small.
