At this rate, I will put up with a whole bunch of issues as long as they're more normal rental and roomate issues for the next two months if it gives me time to find a decent place with good friends who I have practically lived with before.
that crazy lady talking shit about her landlord was just a nice break from the bullshit of craigslist..which is oddly one of the more reliable ways to find an apartment that's not super expensive in the city. but it's still craigslist.

You should definitely vet potential roommates in person before moving in with them.
Are you tied to philly or are other cities on the table?

edit: already in philly, and don't do shit without seeing place and people in person . sry for wall of text, it's hot and I'm drunk and bored waiting for my friend to get off work.
I need a place by september 1st, if worst came to worst I'd be camping out at my brother's about 30-40 minutes from the city and taking regional rail in, I just committed to an opportunity that's not really flexible in center city so I could also stay with my parents and spend about 5-6 hours on the road each day until I found something.
And there's plenty of people looking for someone to finish up their lease and there's month to month places in shared houses, fwiw, the craziest roommates I had were also cool...just..kinda went hard.
But instead of rushing to find a place with people I like and am positive I could live with without fucking up our friendship I'd rather just sweat it out for a few months on someone elses lease. My current roommate is tits it's just she's gotta man and she's growin up and moving in with him.
it'll be okay, the scammers are just so painfully obvious when you know the city and see the inaccuracies in their post but I bet a lot of people moving from real far away get taken for some rides.
I found a studio for 400 a month in pretty much the MOST expensive area if it's actually in rittenhouse and not south of the house south of that, it's almost definitely a scam but I emailed for kicks asking for pics and more info and they asked for my address, phone number, and email, and it's just like....nah, if you can't give me a pic of an apartment THAT ridiculously priced or tell me more info immediately...just..nah. But I wouldn't expect to find anything under like...1600 a month for a studio there.
I'm just keepin an eye out for a 700 dollar a month closet I can sublet or lease and sublet out, but there's plenty of okay people in need of a subletter and I can deal - I'm just shocked at how much easier it is to rent in bulk price-wise now that I'm looking at studios and 1 bedrooms.
its so hot out i'm cranky/rant

Pirate, have you ever been to the "Always Sunny" bar? Is that a real place that you could visit? I've always wanted to get drunk in the "Cheers" bar. I watch both of the shows regularly

uhh I've heard of it once or twice, no one I know has gone to it but other people have mentioned it - seems pretty mehh. Always Sunny is a beloved treasure here, but philly really likes it's gastropubs divey hipster bars and alternative dance clubs, and it's doesn't seem super popular.
idk even where it is, I think it's somewhere in center city, so it's not even an authentic south philly dive experience and you probably can't get a citywide special(pbr and a shot of whiskey for 3 bucks)

Wow, I'm pretty shocked. That is like the only thing I would know to do in Philly. The only other things I know about philly is that it used to be a hot spot for stand-up comedy and is still a hot spot for heroin, and I hear it is dangerous.
I used to live in Detroit. Sometimes I think about going back, then try to think of what I would do there and I can't think of anything besides going back to the Zoo. That is how I imagine Philly would be. Except instead of the zoo I would go to Paddy's Pub.

Philly is a ton of fun. Great music scene and diy art/house show/warehouse party scene, great bar scene, great food scene, and it's downtown area is surpassed in size only by chicago and nyc.
it's also a filthy clusterfuck, you may or may not get robbed at gunpoint, it reeks of hot garbage in the summers, the cockroaches crawl out of the sewers at night, but it also has some super beautiful historical parts and when you know where to go it's a blast. But the places to go to have fun are NOT the liberty bell or some generic irish pub owned by people who live in LA .
It gets a bad wrap because it's a bit of a mess and the touristy things here pale in comparison to the things you find when you go exploring. Instead of being compared to NYC it's really more of a cheaper less pretentious Brooklyn(and I love NYC it's truly one of a kind in this country but super shitty to live in)
edit;
also there's a lot of mean crazy peeps here, but there's also a lot of really chill genuinely kind people here who aren't afraid to tell someone that they're being an asshole, it's just those ones don't make the news.

Tomorrow or the next day will be the first time as an adult having sex. We both just want some pleasure. I'm going to take her to dinner or a movie first. I'm just not sure how direct she wants me to be after that but she made it clear after our movie we are going to go find somewhere to fuck. I'm so excited but I'm barely acknowledging her because she likes that shit.
Anyway I just did moll for really no reason except it's good and I wanted to snort drugs lol.

bostons pretty and I like it, I think it's much better and nicer to visit but I prefer the music and art scene in philly. Maybe it's because all my friends were students and living in nice parts of the city when I hung out up there semi regularly but it seemed a little sterilized. It's a beautiful city though, philly has it's beautiful parts but compared to boston it's so ugly - but it's got soo much going on in the ways of stuff I like like house shows and warehouse parties and random crazy stuff that people are doing..it's just it's all in the nooks and crannies. And that stuff goes on mostly because of it's lawlessness and cheap(er) rents, the cops have a lot more shit to worry about than a bunch of hipsters breaking zoning laws, and you have access to actual nice big city stuff too - but I do think boston is a much more cosmopolitan and beautiful city and coming up from Philly I was constantly laughing at what most of Boston considers sketchy/ghetto - I can't navigate it for shit, but I think people who want to learn about American history should visit Boston instead of Philly and just come to Philly for the weird shit because it's way better.Quote:

Loving the Philly talk. it's a great city. Moved all the big shit in today. Heading back tomorrow with a bunch more stuff. Finally done with that god awful commute! Good luck finding a place pb, and at $400 a month for a studio in rittenhouse.

Nah not all moved in at all, and not even there for the night. I'll be mostly moved in tomorrow, and staying. Gonna be a couple months before everything is fully situated. Not a new city. I've never lived there before, but have been going there my whole life & work there. Philly as well.
