Need ID on mushooms found on the San Francisco Peaks in Flagstaff, AZ
    #23538425 - 08/13/16 04:30 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

I found what I thought were King Boletes  B. edulis but some looked more like those than others possibly B. briceps.  I also found what I believe is an AZ cauliflower mushroom (Sparassis americana var. arizonica) which are apparently pretty rare and delicious.  The last is a whitish/gray Bolete, in not sure what kind it is.

This was the unknown Bolete, maybe Chrome Bolete?  Pretty abundant up there this year. Found under ponderosa pines

This what what I though was a Bolete originally but the tubes were very yellow, not sure if King Boletes get this color.  Very abundant under ponderoas pine trees this year.

Lastly what I am almost positive is a Bolete and Arizona cauliflower mushroom.  Both found around mostly ponderosa pine.

Thanks

they have all the features of Boletus from the edulis group, therefore highly prized edibles
i usually do not like to encourage people to eat mushrooms online and based on photos. And i would not eat a mushroom just because someone (that i dont know) online tells me it is edible... Do your research and wait for a trusted identifier, probably you will feel more comfortable about it.

(I would definitely eat those  )

Cheers

My guesses are:

1. Boletus Barrowsii

2. Boletus Rubriceps

3. Cauliflower Mushroom and Boletus Rubriceps

I went to the San Francisco peaks last week to try to find these suckers but only found a couple of Oysters and my first Shaggy Mane.  Good Job!

Thanks for that!  I got the B. barrowsii identified and I'm super exited about those, they're really good eating.  Little hint: You should go back to the peaks and look around 7500ft.  They were literally everywhere, i just didn't want to pick them until i knew what they were.  I have my nice spots but i poked around other places and still found them to be plentiful. The barrowsii were quite abundant as well.

Thanks for the tip.  I think that I was looking at too high an elevation, I was around 9,000 feet the whole time I was in the area.
