Warrant Issued for Mother’s Arrest for Selling Homemade Tamales to Her Neighbours

Do you think this is a help or hindrance? Personally, I'm of the opinion that if I am eating food from a vendor, I want to know others opinions, and I put more faith into the word of a friend than I do some government piece of paper saying how hygenic a kitchen is.

It's not just a food permit, she would also have had to apply for a business permit as well as several other licenses, and would have legally had to prepare all her food in a commercial kitchen in order to sell it.
These sort of restrictions prevent single individuals or poorer people from making a living in the way that they want to.
Back in the day, anybody with a car could say they were operating a taxi and be in business. Now you have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for a medallion, and they are arresting kids who have lemonade stands.
But, what's worse is the 90 year old pastor pastor that was arrested and charged for feeding homeless people at a park. He wasn't even selling the food, he was giving it away, and he was arrested.

Reminds me of this one time as a kid when I was selling whole smoked trout at a local fest. This one dude buys one, then comes back threatening to sue us becouse "there were bones" it was me and 2 other little kids selling fish and they literally were whole trouts gutted and smoked... I look for bones even when fish are thoroughly deboned becouse they get through still sometimes. How this dude in his 30's did not know to look for bones is beyond me. I was probably less than 1/3rd his age and I new that very well

I'm glad everyone else vibes with what I thought.
It's wrong and illegal unless the government gets their cut. Doesn't matter if it's drugs, guns, or food and any human activity, no matter how innocuous.

Damn, you knew how to gut and smoke whole trout as a kid? That's pretty impressive.
Only in America would somebody sue over finding bones in a fish. A lot of countries eat fish whole and eat around the bones. It's not even a big fucking deal. I think cooking with the bones makes fish taste better.

$200 for a food service permit, $50 for a business license. that's all she would have needed that cost money, if she's running a commercial kitchen from her home, which didnt look to be the home of a poor person, then she would be making money from that enterprise and would surely be able to afford food service permits

a cook is supposed to bone a filet, if you buy salmon filet at the store expect to have pin bones and need some pliers to get them out before cooking it, if you buy a salmon filet at a restaurant then there shouldnt be any pin bones. yes, a lawsuit it a bit much but if it legitimately causes harm then it's appropriate

I wish I could never even bring myself to kill any fish as it just felt wrong but I did catch a lot of trout and some salmon with mi madre's friend.
I should get back into it and get a smoker, fresh smoked fish is addicting when its made well. I want to start making everything into jerky too

Perhaps if the fish is foul hooked or swallows the lure deep in it's organs or something, for sure. If it's just a mouth hook, that alone shouldn't leave the fish for dead 1/3rd of the time.

It doesnt look bad because fish dont bleed much, but it probably causes infection or something. I forget where I heard it. I actually reduced the answer I remembered. I think it was even higher like 70 or 80%

Name me one other country where somebody would sue over finding a bone in a filet.
Occasionally I buy a filet and a bone is found in there, sometimes one will pass through or will be deep in the muscle where the cook can't see it.
It would only hurt you if you swallowed it, anybody who isn't retarded feels the bone while they're chewing and has the common sense to spit it out.

The government regulating food is a very good thing. If anything they should be doing more of it. Once in a while I have to do construction in a restaurant and most of them are nasty. We need more inspectors and they need to be stricter.

The problem is, that most of the time restaurants know when inspectors are coming. Rarely are there actual "surprise" inspections where restaurants and businesses have no idea an official is coming.
Even at Whole Foods, I have seen employees picking up food that fell on the ground and using it to prepare meals.

I think jams need a permit particularly because you're working with preserves and canning and botulism loves that shit. I'm sure lots of people get away with it just fine, but it seems like a relatively simple thing to fix if it's just a matter of getting a permit and learning how to not kill people.

I'd assume it's really difficult to create laws and regulations that effectively govern the safety of food prep and sales for businesses of every size. A regulation that makes perfect sense applied to a large national frozen food manufacturer's production facility may be contorted and stretched to effectively fuck over a small proprietor with what seems like superfluous and oppressive laws.

somewhat, chipotle has had 60 people get sick from their food in a short time across more than a dozen stores in several states, they have health inspections but those inspections dont really mean anything more than the health inspector saw certain violations or didnt. if it's an annual inspection then there's 11 months some goat fucker can be shitting in the beef stew and 1 month they need to get their shit together
an atlanta resturat was cited several years ago because there were dead cats hanging in the cooler, the owner of course said it was for their own use and were not serving it to customers, more recently one was busted bringing in a roadkill deer and had the same story, it wasnt for the customers
http://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/deer-found-dead-side-road-taken-chinese-restaurant/103281744
http://www.wmcactionnews5.com/story/20475616/investigators-find-hanging-animal-carcasses-at-mid-south-restaurant
there is no guarantee of food safety or quality, you can have control of the quality if you buy it, a healt inspection only states that a resturant is clean and there are no violations such as rats in the kitchen or a covered trash can for hygiene products in the women's bathroom (a law where I worked for a while).

My grandmother makes jam but her method of capping them is to use old candle wax, melt it up and then pour it over the jam. 70% of it ends up with green mould over it, of that 30% left, half of it fermented into alcohol (not that nice when you're spreading it over toast) and the other half was edible.
I think if ever I was to do canning and preserves a pressure cooker is the way to go.

Do you think this is a help or hindrance? Personally, I'm of the opinion that if I am eating food from a vendor, I want to know others opinions, and I put more faith into the word of a friend than I do some government piece of paper saying how hygenic a kitchen is.

You must be. a rich snob its not that its found everywhere ... Its the people who serve you food in a restaurant either already have bad hygiene or care very little about quality because of the low wages. I would bet the tacos in the house by the street in the kitchen where I saw them made are healthier than going into a restaurant and sitting in the lobby , away from the kitchen where people fuck with our food. I bought some tamales from a Mexican lady and a big ass cooler , a group of em chills and sells them hoes be kiking

bullshit
Jimmy Chong's was the best chinese food available in atlanta, he was very demanding in the quality he served but the thing that set him apart from all other restaurant was the to go to the bathroom you had to go through the kitchen and in his last restaurant he also had a glass wall that separated the kitchen from the dining room. the reason for this is he wanted everyone to see that his place was clean. he never scored less than a 99 on his inspections
will tamale lady let us come to her home and look into the kitchen? I know many restaurants will but there are also many that wont. worry about those that refuse but also bear in mind that anyone selling food is trying to make money, nothing more

It's wrong and illegal unless the government gets their cut. Doesn't matter if it's drugs, guns, or food and any human activity, no matter how innocuous.
Agreed.
If person 'A' wants to take a risk on an uncertified kitchen that should be their choice. If person 'B' only wants to eat at certified kitchen, that's their choice. 'Land of the free'
