Warrant Issued for Mother’s Arrest for Selling Homemade Tamales to Her Neighbours

Do you think this is a help or hindrance? Personally, I'm of the opinion that if I am eating food from a vendor, I want to know others opinions, and I put more faith into the word of a friend than I do some government piece of paper saying how hygenic a kitchen is.

I'd much rather eat something made in someone's home than in a nasty ass restaurant kitchen

It's not just a food permit, she would also have had to apply for a business permit as well as several other licenses, and would have legally had to prepare all her food in a commercial kitchen in order to sell it.
These sort of restrictions prevent single individuals or poorer people from making a living in the way that they want to.
Back in the day, anybody with a car could say they were operating a taxi and be in business. Now you have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for a medallion, and they are arresting kids who have lemonade stands.
But, what's worse is the 90 year old pastor pastor that was arrested and charged for feeding homeless people at a park. He wasn't even selling the food, he was giving it away, and he was arrested.

Reminds me of this one time as a kid when I was selling whole smoked trout at a local fest. This one dude buys one, then comes back threatening to sue us becouse "there were bones" it was me and 2 other little kids selling fish and they literally were whole trouts gutted and smoked... I look for bones even when fish are thoroughly deboned becouse they get through still sometimes. How this dude in his 30's did not know to look for bones is beyond me. I was probably less than 1/3rd his age and I new that very well

I'm glad everyone else vibes with what I thought.
It's wrong and illegal unless the government gets their cut. Doesn't matter if it's drugs, guns, or food and any human activity, no matter how innocuous.

Damn, you knew how to gut and smoke whole trout as a kid? That's pretty impressive.
Only in America would somebody sue over finding bones in a fish. A lot of countries eat fish whole and eat around the bones. It's not even a big fucking deal. I think cooking with the bones makes fish taste better.

she wouldnt have needed a commercial kitchen to meet health and safety standards

$200 for a food service permit, $50 for a business license. that's all she would have needed that cost money, if she's running a commercial kitchen from her home, which didnt look to be the home of a poor person, then she would be making money from that enterprise and would surely be able to afford food service permits

a cook is supposed to bone a filet, if you buy salmon filet at the store expect to have pin bones and need some pliers to get them out before cooking it, if you buy a salmon filet at a restaurant then there shouldnt be any pin bones. yes, a lawsuit it a bit much but if it legitimately causes harm then it's appropriate
and no, it's not 'only in america'

I wish I could never even bring myself to kill any fish as it just felt wrong but I did catch a lot of trout and some salmon with mi madre's friend.
I should get back into it and get a smoker, fresh smoked fish is addicting when its made well. I want to start making everything into jerky too

I see both sides of the story, but there are plenty of rules and regulations that we take for granted. When I eat at a restaurant, I have some assurance that I won't get sick because of health codes.

Perhaps if the fish is foul hooked or swallows the lure deep in it's organs or something, for sure. If it's just a mouth hook, that alone shouldn't leave the fish for dead 1/3rd of the time.

It doesnt look bad because fish dont bleed much, but it probably causes infection or something. I forget where I heard it. I actually reduced the answer I remembered. I think it was even higher like 70 or 80%

Name me one other country where somebody would sue over finding a bone in a filet.
Occasionally I buy a filet and a bone is found in there, sometimes one will pass through or will be deep in the muscle where the cook can't see it.
It would only hurt you if you swallowed it, anybody who isn't retarded feels the bone while they're chewing and has the common sense to spit it out.

The government regulating food is a very good thing. If anything they should be doing more of it. Once in a while I have to do construction in a restaurant and most of them are nasty. We need more inspectors and they need to be stricter.

The problem is, that most of the time restaurants know when inspectors are coming. Rarely are there actual "surprise" inspections where restaurants and businesses have no idea an official is coming.
Even at Whole Foods, I have seen employees picking up food that fell on the ground and using it to prepare meals.
