So I prepped my WBS yesterday, and I meant to prep more lids but got distracted. So my solution is to just PC as normal, but the loosen the lids like 1-2 turns for GE. I've read mixed things about this. Any insight? Thanks everybody.
Happy cultivating

People do that with plastic lids, pasty has a thread about it.
I would b nervous to do it with metal lids but maybe people r doing that now too. Its the old McKenna style.
To prep a lid....punch a 3/8-3/4" hole, stuff with poly or throw a disc under it. Doesn't take long. There's always that option

I find the unmodified lids horrible they contam after two month reguardless what others say. It seems logical how are you starting your culture in them.

How tight are you making the polyfill. That's the only thing I can think of because the RVT silicon takes 24 hours to properly dry and my WBS has already been soaking for around 18 hours...I really don't want to soak them for 48 hours lol

Start simmering and steam dry them.
U can let them sit after that
During the summer, the the I use germinates if I soak more than 20ish hours.

Again are you injecting spores or culture. Only agar wedges seem good woth this method im doing a test run between polyfill and unmodified lids with li. Remember wet polyfill will contam everytime

The tightness of the poly can be adjusted, but generally, I like to make mine as tight as the polyfil in the bottom holes of my monos

yeah it seems like too much work for me and making sure it's tight to shake and loose enough for ge but not too loose. Love me my sfd's melted onto the plastic lids via Dialated's no silicon tek or the Vid by Gr0wer
I use a small soldering iron to make the holes in the lids. super easy and permanent.
The only thing is you want to use the stiff/thick felt sfd's for them to stay on the longest. I do still have a couple regular sfd's melted on but most came off over time.

Unmodified is like 1000x better for no pour agar vessels than grain jars, yeah. I dunno that I'd say it's worse than micropore though..

So I need to get these grains out of the soak ASAP. Considering that I don't have time to put the SFDs on the lids via silicon, what should I go with? Is there a popular vote? Putting the holes in is no problem. This will essentially be a one time use, and I will put the SFDs after this run, but I've got to get the show on the road.

Silicone the SFD on wait two hours put in pressure cooker.... What's the problem you could have done this already
RTV is not what you want to use. It's for high temperature application and really needs the heat of an exhaust or engine even though RTV would imply that it doesn't.
Kitchen and bath 100% silicone caulk is actually RTV too. Any silicone that smells like vinegar is RTV. You want to use the kitchen and bath 100% silicone. It doesn't have modifiers and metals in it to aid in high temperature application like engine gaskets.
Once a skin forms you can put the silicone in the pressure cooker. The PC will help cure the silicone faster anyway.
The red and blue RTV is much harder, hence it peels off very easily and its harder to get a needle through without punching out the whole SHIP.

Well I was gone at work when I sent this, but no, my silicon says it takes 24 hours to be properly dried and ready for use.

Well that's not the case if you use the PC to cure it after it forms a skin.
