Found Signed Check
#23537036 - 08/13/16 04:29 AM (7 years, 5 months ago) |
|
|
At work I was assigned to clean out desks of employees no longer working here. On 1 desk, the employee left behind his pay stubs and a signed check he received after a trip to the UK. I can verify the signature is indeed his own. Could anything bad happen to me if I tried to cash it? I'd have to sign under his endorsement signature.

this check was from 2014. And he was an asshole to me in the job. Glad he no longer works here. If anything I'm thinking I'd give it to HR or the director who use to sign his time card. I'm sure they won't like hearing he left his paystubs behind for everyone to look at. He makes $6 more an hour than me!

uhhhh. no.
duh? checks usually go void after like 120 days. that check belongs to someone who worked for that money and is entitled to it so you're not stealing money from the corporation you're stealing it from a person and that my friend is dick.

Now really I wouldn't do a thing like that. There is no expiration on the check though. I want to just throw it away, but it's not mine. Maybe return it, but then they'll wonder why I didn't turn it in on Friday. I didn't even notice until I looked at it at home.

It'd actually be funny to see someone try to cash a 2 year old check. If I was the bank teller I think I'd literally say "pwnd newb"

nothing bad could possibly happen, for instance it cant be bad if your name is plastered all over the check along with your hand writing and the check was written on an account that's now closed, I mean at worst you could be arrested and charged with a felony for forgery or worthless check and maybe even theft, but it's not like 2-5 years of probation, an arrest and all those fines are bad, you needed to be supervised by the state anyway because you probably have a marijuana addiction and will be out on the streets sucking dick for a couple hits off a joint next week

it's for $750! I don't see how I could be charged with Forgery because if I sign it, it would be my own signature. Let I mentioned, the person the check is made out to has already signed it. I heard checks are valid up to 3 years.

Offer someone half to cash it for you But be honest with them about where it came from, not sure if legal etc. I'd even try to talk them out of it if they agreed to it but would stop when they were dead set on the money

OP doesnt understand how that shit works, he needs the ID of the person it was written to in order to cash it if they're willing to accept it without his physical presence
OP wants state supervision and jail time, let him have his day

Here is what you need to do OP, copy the signature off the check and make thousands more. Like at least a thousand.
Once you have a giant bag of checks take them into a bank and dump them out then go straight to jail, do not collect 750$

Call the guy the check is written out to and tell him you have his check for $750, and that you'll mail it to him for $500. You get $500 (legally), he gets a check that's two years old.
Change up the amount you charge him for mailing him his two year old check based on how gullible he is.

check wouldn't be valid and even if he was all he'd have to do would be to call the company and they'd have to legally reissue him one. Actually I've had employers send me checks by mail multiple times(when I was a server so it was nothing too exciting amount wise) that I had never cashed, then I forgot about it again so they handed it over to my state treasury department and I checked the treasury website(EVERYONE should do this btw a lot of unclaimed money is floating out there and you be surprised that you are entitled to $ from something or other) and I finally cashed my 60 dollar(again...waitressing) check like four years later

Yeah I'll totally give you 500$, mail it to my house, my address is 308 negra arroya lane NE Albuquerque.
And so the check is mailed, the original owner pays op and we all live happily ever after.
in reality the check gets deposited and op never hears from him again
the address i listed was walter whites from breaking bad. Idk why but as i started typing it i heard him saying it in my mind decided to use it for an example

Could be inheritance, lost work checks, missing tax refunds, closed bank accounts that you had some cash in. Whatever really.

You defend a political ideology that depends heavily upon taxation, which is theft. But you also condemn theft if it's someone other than the government who is doing it.
I know exactly what irony is and that is a classic example of it.

No, that falls under the general definition of irony pretty much exactly.
Also, you are bickering over the usage of the word "irony" because you cannot refute the irony of condemning theft while condoning taxation (ie: government sponsored theft). It's pretty fucking ironic, bro.

Taxation becomes theft when the taxee (a person who is taxed) decides to withdraw their consent (voluntary participation). It really is no different than paying protection fees to your local mafia outfit. Most people would prefer to avoid the hassle, hence they pay up without argument.

Good for you. We live in a society where we share costs for certain services and for infrastructure. This is done through taxation. If you don't like it you are welcome to leave. Good luck finding another country that doesn't tax its citizens.

It sounds hyperbolic to you because you are not following this to it's inevitable conclusion. What happens when you don't pay taxes? The government strong arms you into submission. They simply don't take "No, leave me alone, I have a hard enough time making ends meet as it is" for an answer. They will offer you all kinds of plea deals and compromises or whatever, but at the end of the day, they can only use violence to compel you. And then they'll say "you forced us to do this, if only you would have complied". I forced you to force me? The whole thing stinks to high heaven.

OP doesnt understand how that shit works, he needs the ID of the person it was written to in order to cash it if they're willing to accept it without his physical presence
OP wants state supervision and jail time, let him have his day

If you're going to start cashing checks that aren't yours, you might as well just forge them. No lucky finds needed. Just forge it and hope the police don't come knocking on your door. It carries the same risk either way. Both are just as stupid.

If you owe taxes, you have to pay them. You aren't special. You don't get to opt out. If you want to change the system, you are free to elect people who represent your viewpoint into government. Until then, if you break the law, you can't complain when you are punished.
It's reasonable to debate how the tax burden is distributed in society, but only fringe radicals argue that people can simply not pay taxes if they don't want to.
You should go down to Nevada and join that freeloading bundy cult. You can sit around anally pleasuring each other with your guns while you plot to overthrow a democratically elected government.

Compulsory taxation is theft. You cannot get around this fact. You can argue 'til you're blue in the face about why it's a good idea to pay up. And I'm not even arguing that you shouldn't. But at the end of the day, it's theft. Why you cannot even acknowledge this on an intellectual level is what makes you a quintessential libtard.

Compulsory taxation isn't theft. That's just hippie talk. Taxation is a governmental power that has existed for thousands of years and will continue to exist long after your body had withered to dust.

It is theft for you not to pay taxes. We have a progressive tax rate in place to take the burden off of poor people who cannot afford to pay. Virtually everything you do, the federal government has helped to pay for. At the very least, your freedom to live in a safe country as this one and not a shit hole in Africa is not free of charge.
