Breastfeeding until teenage or adult age--thoughts?

This came up in another thread I made, but I wanted to make a separate thread about it to get your inputs.
One of my friends has a son who's maybe 2 or 3 years old now, and insists on breastfeeding him until he's an adult. I was shocked when I heard this, I didn't even know what to say that could possibly get her to change her mind.
I thought it was.... weird, to say the least. Humans are the only species on earth that breastfeed beyond infant age. Her son is going to resent her so much when he grows up, either that or he will have intense mommy issues when he's older.
Here's a kid, aged 8, who says he was forced to breastfeed by his mom at his age:
Quote:
But his babysitter thought differently and called a child-abuse hotline after Kyle — then 5 years old and in the first grade — allegedly said he wanted to stop breast-feeding but "Mommy wouldn't let me."
Although Stuckey denied she forced her son to nurse, Illinois child-welfare officials put her son in foster care. Now, a little over two years later, Kyle is back with his mom,and still nursing occasionally, although he is 8 years old. And his mother is speaking out about the controversy.
Quote:
The state claimed that breast-feeding a first-grader was "sexual molestation," but a family court judge disagreed. Nevertheless, the judge refused to return the boy to his mother.
"Even though Kyle is a bright, sunny boy, he is also embarrassed and faces enormous potential emotional harm," the judge wrote.
It clearly states in the article that her son was placed in foster care for six months, yet he came home and she continued nursing him. If she was apart from him for six months, it means she isn't even producing any milk anymore, this lady is clearly mentally ill.

Well, she's not really my "friend," I invited her to one of my drug parties a long time ago and then later on attended her wedding and baby shower maybe 2 years later. After she gave birth to her son though she became really weird, she unfriended me and pretty much all other women we were friends with on Facebook for no reason. Our mutual male friends still remained her friends. None of us did anything to her?

Totally normal, as long as its consensual

She legitimately sounds like she may have some problems. Whats worse is the repercussions with the child.

Yeah, of course I know why, it still seems weird because whenever she would get drunk, she would start showing me naked pictures and sexy selfies of her on her call phone. I'd be sitting there like "...K? Cool story bro lol"
So I just found it weird she would be like that, especially since I promise you none of us are remotely attracted to her husband.

I feel like it could aid in the development of the child. It is kind of strange though, and it would be nice if it was consensual. Breast milk is good stuff. Shit, I'd probably buy some off a an extremely healthy lactating female and try to drink it lol. I'd love to see some studies on this.

There are studies done about it, the reason the World Health Organization recommends 2 years, one thing that it has definitely been known to improve is one's immune system via the antibodies in the milk.
I personally don't believe breast milk increases IQ or anything else that some people say, at least not until they put forth some credible information showing so

Yes, I definitely believe that it helps young children. I have alot of allergies, due to not being breastfed. As another poster stated, most animals only breastfeed their "children" when they are very young.
What I would love to see studies on, is how much it actually helps an older child or young adult. I could imagine as age progresses, it helps them less, because they are not developing as much. I still believe it would help them somewhat though!

I'm not sure, actually, I would like to know too.
Personally, I believe extended breastfeeding shouldn't boost the immune system that much more than breastfeeding for a short period of time. Because once you develop the antibodies, you already have them.
Instead, what would actually be ideal for a super-healthy immune system would probably be to drink breast milk from many different mothers, so you can acquire a bunch of different antibodies, that makes far more sense.

I was on the bottle because my mother had to work. I have no allergies
animals typically wean their young due to teeth, older animals still nurse in some cases, it's not common but it still happens

Hmm. After looking it up, it's only speculated that breastfeeding (during a certain period) helps with allergies on high-risk babies. So since I was never breastfed either, and am allergic to many things, another factor must be involved.
No need for the graphic pics though lol

I was breastfed and had a lot of allergies as a kid. I was allergic to so many foods as an infant that my parents had to buy exotic meats like turtle and snake and quail, because I would develop an allergic reaction to anything I had ever eaten before in my life.
Still allergic to cats and pollen and horses and hay, and I can usually tell when a home has a rat or mouse infestation because I start itching like crazy.

If your friend is determined to breast feed an adult, I'll take one for the team and volunteer to suckle.

I'm reading about this girl on Reddit who was breastfed until 15 years old:
Quote:
I stopped when I was 15. I had just recently discovered masturbation and I realized that I was beginning to look forward to it in a less than innocent light. I also started understanding my own sexuality better and didn't want to taint what was a bonding, calming, comforting thing with my hormones. The moment that made me realize that it was actually weird was on the night I stopped, my mom started humping my leg (fully clothed) while I was doing it. That's when I knew that it was becoming something more and I wasn't comfortable with that. Neither of us mentioned it again after that. For the most part it was more of a relaxation thing. She'd rub my back and I'd be able to fall asleep more easily. It wasn't until near the end that I started realizing it was beginning become a sexual thing for me.
Quote:
Well there was another incident where she licked my nipple once (and that's it, nothing more) but my cognitive dissonance and maybe a bit of denial is strong with that incident so I'm entering unreliable narrator territory there.
