You are spot-on. So why does Clock Boy get all this symptathetic press--even from the president--but its crickets except for a few right wing talkers when it comes to 'finger guns?'
look see, see where you two come together.
both correct assertions.

Must be the liberals.
Seriously though, you dont see the difference between embracing a kid for being discriminated against and overreacting to a gesture towards shooting someone?
Maybe if the clock kid had a red switch coming out of his shirt for turning the clock on youd have an apt comparison.
No. I see it as reasonable that if someone brings something to school that looks like a bomb, or gives the perception of such a thing, then it should be looked at by the police.
Now, there is no need to throw people out of school etc for stupidity as such, UNLESS is was with intent of creating fear.
For example, the idiot guards at the UTC mall in la jolla fucking approached me for holding a ukulele case, thinking I might have a gun.
While that is pretty fucking stupid from their point of view, I was just carrying a ukulele, and they did have a right if they had suspicion to at least ask me whats in the case.
My attitude could have been 'How dare you' and getting lawyer-ed up and trying to get some $$, but I'm a reasonable fucking person. Unlike Clockboy's current situation--he's moved from the US and they are suing for big money.
Fucking ridiculous.
apples and oranges.
this kid is not culpable in the same regard as an adult. you should know this fairly fucking basic concept. kids are easily influenced. i bet any money that you think he was "set up" to do it...one of those people? well, look, i don't give even enough fucks to slay any time trying to dig up shit. the point is a forgone conclusion, because it's not about that. you wanna talk about that, that's different then talking about the kid...the kid is not culpable, he is just literally going to school, he went to the teacher, informed his teacher that he had what he had...these are the facts...then he was told to put it down, and leave it with him; then the snafu happened. he was snarked upon, he was arrested. the snarking still continues. it's unjust.

it always comes down to the hoi polloi's bedrock assumptions that certain people have to resort to.

falcon said: Hmm i thought at the time it wasn't stupid at all, he didn't build a clock, he assemblled a box around a piece of electronics that was a clock, that looked like a bomb. They didn't charge him, but given, that he didn't make the clock as he claimed a police escort off of school ptoperty and holding him till his parents could get him was not unreasonable.
Bullshit. At the time it was stupid. At worst it should have stopped at the principal. At worst he could have gotten in touch with the CHILD'S parents and explained what problem they had. Calling the police was out of fear. unfounded fear. principal asks the kid to explain and then tells parents if that bended any rules. Calling the cops was out of fear and incompetence(I'd argue hate but not even going there yet). The cop should have been like, "what the fuck are you wasting my time with this shit?" That the cop takes him into custody brings the whole situation to an entirely new level of fear(hate). Look at the kid. I see an almost stereotypical looking nerd. He posed no threat. Again the principal should have explained the schools position to the boys parents if even that. Where are the reports of these children with poptart guns getting taken to the police station. If that is a real thing then that is stupid as well.
