Bacteria or nah?
    #23535547 - 08/12/16 05:25 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

I quoted this from elsewhere, so if it reads funny that's why.
Hey guys... Do your plates ever stop growing radially at some point? Like after the initial "fluff up" after a transfer... Not as extremely radial as shit like tamps, but until my plates are about the size of a quarter there is like tomentose myc that grows upward while the rhizo sectors stay flat along the agar.

I'll see if I can dig out an old donor plate and try to get a pic to show you what I mean... I've been using MEA premix from fungiperfecti...

Here is one, I dug it out of the trash so it's semi old, but you get the idea... The fuzzy looking myc is what I'm asking about... I'm kinda thinking it's a reaction to a bacteria that I don't know how to identify... Or maybe/hopefully just tomentose myc off in the mix...

The plate that I used to noc these up had that type of growth, it looked clean to me... The only way I know how to check for bacteria is physically seeing it on the surface of the agar... So I don't know if these are bacterial or just dope looking...

I didn't expand those jars as I had intended to because I wasn't sure... The two shoeboxes I spawned them to are colonized and look rhizo just like the jars... I'll grab a pic tonight... I'm gonna put this in a thread fuck it, maybe it will help someone else.

So it's just super aggressive? I remember someone telling me when myc looks like fingers on the glass that it's a reaction to bacteria. I threw out plates that looked just like that one because of it. :/

I have a question. How do you decide what to use off that plate? To someone who has no clue, that whole thing looks good. Will using a chunk from everywhere produce nearly identical mushrooms?

Or to someone experienced, can you see better sectors that will produce better mushrooms?

Thanks if anyone understands what I'm trying to ask and can answer

the sign of bacteria on plates is generally when you get overlapping sectors. it looks like there are several overlapping sectors around 4-5 o'clock.

To spot the bacteria from the underside of the plate?

Overlapping sectors :takingnotes:

Stop being a douche and source some Petri dishes :takingnotes:

So sectors won't overlap each other on a clean plate? Hmmmmm... Can either of y'all elaborate on this for a retard?

there should only be 1 leading edge. the overlapping sectors result from having a normal leading edge, then a new sector reaches out like an arm over top of it. also, when it goes rhizo->puffy->rhizo typically not a good sign either. i have some pics that a bit different than this, but they show the same thing happening at an earlier state.

its kinda hard to realize the 3d in this pic, but at 6 o'clock there is like 3 sectors overlapping. 2 are even sticking up in the air.

this one was rhizo then went puffy and then went rhizo when it hit the walls
