To what extent are they really watching us?

How easy is it for a phonecall to be lost amongst a billion others?
-------------------- Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

Actively, not much. Passively, they're storing everything they can to be processed as needed.

NottheDevil got it.
We don't have the time or resources to sort through the amount of data being collected on the average citizen but it is all being archived and stored in huuuuge facilities(dunno about AUS but this is the case with the US) out in the middle of nowhere.
Big Data is exploding as an industry, and when it comes to corporations spying on people it's more on the scale of analyzing trends in the data on a mass scale to put it extremely simply, I'm sure someone else can expand on it better than I can.
Even your appliances can spy on you now, if you have any smart home appliances chances are the company is monitoring or about to step into the exercise of monitoring their consumer's usage and how people use the appliances. My father is in information security but he started work at an industry leader in intelligent home appliances(not getting more specific than that) and he's involved with a lot of facets of the business and he said that's the way most companies are going, he said he advised the CEO that people would be far far more receptive to their usage being stored and analyzed if a. they consented and it was very clear and b. they were given a solid incentive(discount offers on their products) to consent.
Honestly, spy/surveillance technology is terrifying when you start getting into the really shady tiers of it(hostile countries spying on one another for instance and the reason why the Pentagon has super reinforced crazy ass walls that block certain electrical signals for rooms where sensitive info is discussed). For most of us we're lost in the masses and our info is stored away in one of these waiting for a time when there's a more feasible way to analyze it on a more individual scale.

Just assume that if someone wants access to a device badly enough they can get access.

They are storing everything and with quantum computing it's going to be a lot easier to find a particular piece of information.

yeah, our current methods of encryption will be garbage too until post quantum cryptography is explored a little further. Fascinating and scary stuff.

I don't worry about it, I hope that can see my naked ass get in the shower via some spy cam, fuck em if they wanna see my willy go for it.
I carry a couple things with GPS on me daily, which I am sure can track all my movements, I don't give a fuck because I don't do anything wrong, plus you have RFID chips or whatever they're called in bank cards, there really is no such things as privacy unless you're off the grid completely.
I hope these bastards see my sweet cycling gainz, and then go "damn, I didn't think mushrooms could make you do that, I only thought they made you gay, holy shit we should start dosing more"
Speaking of mushrooms making you gay, I wonder if they know that's a joke, or if they really think they make you gay, maybe it's not a joke and the jokes on us, I just had an aneurysm.

I think there's too much going on in the world for 'them' to track down millions of drug users activity, so I'm never worried because there's always millions of other drug activities that are bigger than I've ever been involved in.
I think privacy shouldnt worry anyone, whatever it is that your worried about the privacy of, there's always someone doing wayyyy worse more embarrasing shit than you.
