The difference just 24 hours makes is amazing... these things doubled in size in 24 hours. I came home from work to find this...
Just 24 hours between the two pictures. The cake did rest in a saucer with a little bit of water in it last night for about 2.5 hours. Idk if that made a difference in the growth of these guys, or if this dramatic growth in 24 hours is completely noreal.... thoughts?

I too fucked up ordering a grow kit. Luckily I managed to happen upon the shroomery. Everyone here is very helpful, and after taking the advice offered, I managed to convert my grow kit into a SGFC. I kept the heating pad and am currently still using it for the incubation period. Keeping temps hovering around 82°... the whole process took about 8 weeks, give or take a few days. I used the grow kits pre sterilized substrate jars successfully, but have also began making my own.. e.g. vermiculite, brown rice flour (which I made myself using a blender and long grain brown rice), and distilled water. They're just beginning to colonize. Coming along nicely.
I'm curious, the difference between the pictures, is that a normal growth for just 24 hours? The more than doubled in size. I'm asking because I had the cake sitting in a saucer of water the night before for about 2.5 hours. I'm wondering if that made any bit of difference?

Im so happy that I never even thought to order a grow kit. My first google search was how to grow magic mushrooms and I luckily found a really outdated PF tek. Looking back now I really dodged a huge bullet. Some friends of mine have even ordered grow kits since I started and luckily I found out in time for them to get refunded. PF is so easy and cheap. Some people I hear about dropping 150 bucks on a grow kit! Thats crazy! You can do PF TEK with better results and easily a third of the cost!
EDIT: I forgot to mention that cluster is dope. Has agar written all over it

That's really great! I'm in the middle of harvesting my first batch of Cambodians and it's been a real fun ride.
I also ordered a grow kit online. Ended up using only the sterilized jars, 6800k light bulb and thermometer from it. Huge waste of money. Had to buy a different tub because the one they sent was too small for 12 cakes. Had to buy a power drill, drying chamber, and plastic gloves.
It was a learning experience. But yes, grow kits are essentially useless unless you don't have a way to sterilize your substrate.

If by "grow kit" you mean MS syringe that you plan to use to inoculate jars you're going to make yourself (such as PF tek) then good luck!
If by "grow kit" you mean "pre-sterilized jars", terrarium, heating pad, waffle iron, and baseball jersey cobbled together and sold as a kit, then there's still time to avert disaster. When your kit gets here take out the syringe and store it someplace dark and cool. Throw away the waffle iron and heater and jars.
Shit!!! yeah i ordered the 8 jars and from "Site A.." and the syringes from "Site B..". So you are telling me not to even try using the jars?!?!? I got 2 sets of syringes so i figured it can't hurt to give their jars a shot... Or can it?!??

Understood. Well I don't have any supplies at the moment and I guess its still worth a shot. I got a PE and Argentina syringe of pores. I was going to try the PE first... Now I think I want to save that.
And as I was walking my dog just now look what showed up in the mail.
