Ego Death, what does it feel like to you?

I think I may have experienced it. The shell self goes away and I'm left with this stranger that I don't even know and I am him. I thought it was terrifying. Don't take shrooms and fall asleep.

Some of the last things I remember leading up to it was losing all aspects of my "self". Losing the plot of who/what/where I was, not being able to remember such things, then not being able to even comprehend the concept of such things, then losing all cognition and ability to think at all....I became nothing more than a point of awareness in a void of caressing vibrations, awareness with out self, timeless...no nothingness..No thoughts about anything, just awareness.....It felt like my "awareness" had merged with the universe, no longer connected to a body, like every bit of my consciousness was smeared across and connected to every minute point of the cosmos..
Upon coming back down, it was sorta like waking up from a dream, but very very slowly....Slowly remembering that this point of awareness was an "I", all the while seeing this "I" from an outside perspective...Remembering this "I" had a name...Remembering "I" had a life, family, a girlfriend, possessions, emotions, memories, etc.....Remembering that I was laying on a bed.....Remembering that I had ate some mushrooms several hours ago.

That's a good way to put it in a nutshell .
Has such a cozy familiarity to it all...."Wait a minute, I've been here before" .
Though usually at that point, there's no "I" left to think.
And that "cozy familiarity" could be a dreadful & terrifying hell for some folks.

It starts off feeling like complete insanity, like everything you thought you knew no longer makes sense. I start to reach a point of stupor which I enjoy to the point where the simplest concepts make no sense, such as the chairs and other items in the room around me. Its feels like my body suddenly starts to vibrate on the level of everything else, almost as if I'm merging with my surroundings. Then comes the fear, oh the fear. It feels like as if my life becomes a distant and faint memory as what I know as myself is swallowed by a black hole and as this happens my mind expands. It feels like an open plain and at this point it feels like ultimate love and peace. I start thinking more fluidly, but I don't think of myself as I. I think of my self as "we" as im thrown into thoughts about things greater than myself alone.

It's a natural feeling, doesn't even really feel like your on any type of drug anymore at that point, a mind state

All my memories go away and I lose the ability to have thoughts I just become a single point of awareness. No personality, no feelings just pure awareness.
After this I usually feel reborn.

It's strange that people keep saying if feels like coming home. To me the coming home feeling I get from mushrooms happens even at times I don't get ego death, and other times I have gotten ego death and didn't get this feeling, it was more of the feeling...that this is the end.
I've never gotten this coming home feeling on LSD either.

I get it on DMT and mushrooms. DMT especially feels likes its supposed to be happening. Ego death on LSD felt like I was actually dying or waking from a dream. Not terrifying but more like this ultimate connection to everything.

I have noticed a lot of connections between LSD and dreaming
Now when you say on DMT it feels like it's supposed to be happening do you mean like feelings of predeterminism? https://psychonautwiki.org/wiki/Feelings_of_predeterminism

Its hard to explain really. Its like a very natural feeling where it just happens. Like shedding parts of yourself. You kind of tune out and let go. I dont know how to describe it. For me it feels like there are 4 stages of letting go of your ego before you reach that point in a DMT trip. It happens so fast too you just let it happen and then you're gone.

I've been reading a lot of people's DMT experiences lately and hearing about a lot and I feel like I've noticed a few patterns.
It seems to always start off very colorful and visual you start seeing patterns and things start getting very intense and then they feel like they travel somewhere else and after traveling down a tunnel (or sometimes not) they get ego death and become "nothing" or they enter a place of nothing and everything becomes still and silent and then they realize some existential realization and come back down and they feel like they know the answers to everything and where we came from and why we're here and then just a memory swipe.
Maybe I'm totally wrong here and it's not like that at all but that part about everything becoming silent and still and then profound is something I keep hearing.
edit: It seems the beginning is the most "scary"

I describe these stages as climbing a mountain, it does happen so quick so it's hard to describe, but usually begins with swimming in a pool of repressed emotion and subconscious thought for awhile as you begin to question your own existence, you begin to question everything until you reach a point of just having to give up and let it take you over as there's no use to try to understand, all can be understood in the moment of silence, or the Divine moment of Truth(DMT)

Yea its totally these different levels of questioning or emotions. Then dropping that part and moving towards your external reality and shedding the fact you are alive and a human that smoked a drug. Then you're pretty much there.

Letting go of everything, and just being here in the moment, in the now. The Atma Shakatam pretty much sums it up.
-------------------- "Love one another." "To Love is to know me." "Love is the Law, Love under Will." "In Compassion, all sorrows end." Regardless of the Master, the message is the same- Choose love and you shall live, Choose Fear and you shall die. Help bring peace to this Earth: Love one another, and serve others before yourself.

A very literal feeling of being "reborn" after I came out of my ego death, I didn't even know where or who I was anymore, just filled with the infinite stream of universal connection and love, literally reset my entire brain and re-implemented new ideas of wisdom to base all my reasoning off. Took a good 2 years to get a good grip and fully embrace the change. Once you reach it, you realize it's not something to do for "fun" its a very powerful medicine, and can be a key to your spiritual growth if used properly.
