Neighbors are horrible dog owners...what to do
    #23531183 - 08/11/16 11:06 AM (7 years, 5 months ago)

Or dog havers should I say. This thing spends its life on their tiny porch, just constantly whining/howling/making weird sounds of sadness I didn't know dogs could make. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a cage inside for the rare occasion that they allow it inside.  It doesn't seem like a dangerous/bad dog or anything, they sit with it while they smoke cigs.

Thing very rarely gets walked, and even when it does, they just put a leash on it and stay on their own property. Which is a tiny city lot, they just walk it around their tiny yard. :crankey:

Can't very well call the humane society because then it just ends up in the pound...right? It seems that my only real option is to ask my neighbor if I can take it on walks and give it at least some semblance of a dogs life.

Any other ideas?

That's a good idea, take it if you can. I hate seeing dogs/pets mistreated as well.

We've just never been on good terms as neighbors so I never quite get up the courage to go ask them if I can do it

My parents treated their dogs like this. Horrible ass people.  Dogs would spend hours in a tiny fenced in back yard, or in a cage, never pet never walked no car rides nothing.

My mom actually asked me how she should kill her dog a couple weeks ago.  She said euthanizing it just seems cruel and wants to do it herself.

She's been losing her mind since she quit drinking and got put on lexapro.  She never used to treat animals like that until then.  I made her put one of them up for adoption because it was so mistreated, threatened to call the dog warden. She had three dogs in one cage.  Then the other dog just disappeared one day after I almost got in a fight with my step dad because he slammed the door shut on the dogs leg and broke it.  He didn't know I was in the other room and heard him do it.  The dog was gone the next day.  No sign.

Now my mom lives with my step dads mom, and she is an animal rights activist that owns 50+ cats 3 dogs 2 goats and 4 horses.....so my mom went there with her remaining dog and my step grandma makes sure the dog is cared for well......so my mom went and got 2 more dogs

Kinda worry about the situation with her honestly.

There are neighbors who have hopped over fences and freed the dog themselves when animal control did nothing about dogs who were being mistreated or kept tied up outside all its life. If you can find it a good home or adopt it yourself without your neighbors finding out, I would do that.

haha, if I can arrange an adoption with somebody I might actually consider that.

Problem is a lot of people live in that shit-hole house, would be risky to sneak over there at any time of night, never know who'll be awake. But the porch they keep it locked up in is right by the street, probly wouldn't take more than 30 seconds to walk up and open the gate.

and jesus christ vandago, I'd be worried about her  too. thats nuts

Just ask them if you think they would harm you for taking it. If you are sure you can free it and give it a good home DO IT!

you people haven't seen what I have. I have actually seen someone cut a hole in the side of a brick house and put a doggy door into the room! Also 15 cats and 5 dogs at the same place! People are weird about animals.

My neighbor has what sounds like a large dog that he keeps in a cage on his screened in patio all day.

I've never seen it once and feel like it lives a terrible life. it's probably just used as a burgler alarm. idk but it's pretty sad.

Hire some thieves to steal the dog and sell it to a good home

Ok, maybe extreme....

The other option is to move away.
