That's a boiler, it would feed steam into a sterilizer. If you looking to do a single drum steamer it would need to be custom built. Also a 100gal drum is too tall at 45" to reach down into. You would be doing a head dive into a drum to pull out the last bags. The biggest you would want is a 85 gal IMO as they are shorter. It would also need a rack to hold the bags above the water and float valve or a large gap for the water as it steams off.

Hey tump, I'm looking at buying a steam generator for a sauna...they run $200 and up. Chefinainteasy has a thread on here showing his steam setup. He piped it into a livestock trough. Legit. By the time I fiddled with drums, elements, floats, reordering, fiddling some more, blah blah blah.....I could have ordered the generator. At least, that's where I'm at.

If you get them from China, order two, they can be pretty poor quality.

Kind like that
Nope. They run on 220v and range from like 4-11kw or so. The models with a continuous run option are the ones needed for sterilizing. A good one runs about $400-$500. The element will eventually fail but are replaceable.

with a steamer, would you not have to do a run thats 24 hours or so? how would you bring pressure into this to make runs faster?

Yes 24 hour plus runs . pressure 5psi would reduce time a little but risk explosions

I bought one with a controller like this http://m.ebay.com/itm/6KW-STEAM-GENERATOR-HOME-SPA-SHOWER-SAUNA-BATH-ST-135M-CONTROLLER-PROFESSIONAL-/261241012453?nav=SEARCH. The unit was not able to run on a continuous cycle even if you changed the jumper with the second controller.
you don't need a controller. you can activate the units via a button on the power board, I have 4 to turn on and off.

I ran 2 systems that were using a 55gal boiler from bubbas and a 100 gal horizontal steam chamber. they weren't too different from what he sells online, just some brackets on the inside and a couple extra ports.

We managed to upgrade to a small shed that holds 400 bags on rolling carts so there's no time wasted loading and unloading. Belive it or not, it was not terribly more expensive than the barrels and holds more sub! Downside is that it's sealed like the barrels. with the barrels I have let sterilized bags sit for a month!

Wish the damn manufacturer would have told me that! I emailed them several times trying to find a way to bypass it or get the schematics of the board. I figured there had to be a way to bypass the controller. They told me that I would have to have a separate controller for continuous cycle. They mailed it to me for $30, but I am going to have to revisit the board now if I can run it without one. Thanks, Drake!
