Cultivation General Discussion * 30
    #23528067 - 08/10/16 12:10 PM (7 years, 9 months ago)

Don't know why we don't have one of these, but apparently people get fussy when posts are "off topic" in a given thread.  So, here's a thread where nothing is off topic as long as you can somehow draw a connection between it and cultivation.

I don't have any major topic suggestions, but if you're looking for something worth talking about, you could start with genetics, lineages, site/community project suggestions, "dafuq is this?" type posts, requests for assistance pointing to your own thread, disputing current techniques, etc.  Hell, if you just want to ramble on about cultivation, while I may normally object, this is the place to do it.  (I'm looking at you Fractal)

So, if that's all, and I think it is, go ahead and cut loose.

Important Edit:

Okay, so, maybe don't quite cut loose.  We do want to stay on the topic of cultivation.  If we start wandering outside of that then there's no reason for this to be here.  We can talk about what the fuck ever in journals and some of the other forums, but let's keep it on topic here.  If this thread serves its function correctly, that can mean a lot less bullshit in other threads, meaning thread subjects could plausibly be used in the search engine to accurately find actual discussion about said topic.  Groundbreaking, I know.

Go forth and do.

Is pan cinc. worth cultivating? Not a lot out there on this. I find it all over the place now.

IMO they're worth it. They also have sclerotia lol. One of the only pans which form sclerotia.

Does anyone have proof that their substrate bruised from handling and direct misting rather than dry conditions and/or contaminations? Been looking for someone who has experience with handling bruising on a sub, and it wasn't because of conditions. Personally I haven't ever seen any bruising from anything but dry conditions, yet every noob says you can get bruising from handling.

I think I've seen a few pan cinct grows.. It only really looks "worth" cultivating if cultivating new shit is what you're into, but that's just from my perspective, I haven't eaten any or anything.

Good question about the bruising.  I've never had anything bruise from handling except fruits.  What's up with jars that bruise when you shake them, for that matter?  Never seen that in person either but I would toss that shit immediately if it happened to me.

Ime cakes do bruise from handling. It does seem to come out more when they've gotten dried though. I haven't seen a single bruise from misting.

I think of it a bit like, when it was so dry, it didn't even have 'enough blood to bruise' even if it wanted to. :broscience:

Yeah bruising from shaking is imo always bacteria. That shit never happens normally. I made a thread on bruising here saying that the whole handling/spraying bruising is a myth, and barely anyone said anything that would prove otherwise. I was shocked because it is a pretty bold thing to outright say considering everyone says it can bruise from handling

@dank that is true. I've also seen bruising from a substrate that was turning yellow from being dry. The moment it was misted the yellow areas started bruising at that moment. Which still IMO indicates it was just too dry to begin with, and rehydration caused the yellow dying myc to turn blue from it. Not sure about the science behind it tho. It was just an observation.

Quote:

- psillyshrooms
Also notice that the mycelium is yellowing, and "dying". It is another indication things got too dry. The mycelium also bruised blue after a mist because it was recovering.

Mad season I posted a pic of my first grow bag what was nasty but did bruise where I picked it up using my fingertips to hard leaving 5 finger tip blue black circles only have the thumb pic didn't notice the 4 finger bruises till after I panicked about the one my thumb caused the cake was very bacterial I might add that may be a factor
Yeah I know its rank but the blue black bit is what my thumb did

I remember that pic. It was hella bacterial. Which imo is why it happened. Considering a lot of bruising from shaking seems to happen to bacterial jars

To be honest now that I think about it I've never bruised a bulk sub even after dropping it or breaking it in half accidentally.

They never blue like cakes did for me

There was one time along time ago that my wife got mad at all of the mushroom shit around the house, so I picked up a tub and chucked it like a football onto my back porch, tub cracked and the sub broke into tons of pieces, it was pinning it's first flush when I did that, it never turned blue, sure enough just sitting there cracked open on my back porch gave out one of the biggest meatiest flushes I have ever had.

In light of this thread, I have been seeing some people talking about casing and fruiting at spawning, what are the pros and cons?
I have been wondering about this but it felt silly to start a whole thread about it.

Do you have any good tens for fruiting a monotub immediately after spawning it?

I assume u meant tips.

Tighter polly to start, looser poly when it's colonized.

So does the faster pinning in exchange give less BE? And as far as less chance of mold, are you saying less chance of mold before first flush or just in general?
And to keep this in the spirit of discussion, is this something you like to do inocuole?

Less mold because more FAE.  And yeah, I've fruited at the same time as spawning since the first time I tried it and it worked spectacularly.  I'm all for less steps.

I used to think/hope it was something to do with being a non native speaker. But, it's really stuck, so I'm not so sure.

Maybe they don't even realize what the name means, so don't put together that it's just a tub?

I notice non english speakers like to say fructification instead of fruiting.  That's technically more correct than the word we use for it though..

But this is why I poke fun at it when I see it, so that that specific source doesn't start.. becoming the source of a new incorrect term.  That doesn't help when it's in the thread title and said noob never goes into the thread though.

I added monotub to all my devices' dictionaries last year...people just don't realize what they are actually looking at...monotub isn't even a great name for it since spawn is added...I mean a straw log is just as monotubish in nature as an Ohmatic Monotub.....I've been calling them mushroom farms in person....

They're just "tubs" 'round here.  Mono seems redundant.  Like, how bout we specify when there's more than one, and NOT specify when there is only one, since those concepts are mutually exclusive?

I know it was originally set to contrast the dubtub but I mean, you could just keep calling those dubs and all would be well in the realm.

On the other hand, "mini mono" rolls off the tongue nicely.  Tough call..

i actually wouldve put money on it being a youtube thing.. but i tried to search for it, and there is only one video calling it a "monotube" ive seen so far, and it's not an English title. so safe to say it's not a you tube thing...

it is very strange that its said by sooo many noobs, though. my phone doesnt auto correct monotub to monotube, though.

i feel like it has to be more than a typo.

the first time i saw someone say it, i was wondering how they got that word.. its not any sort of tube at all!

How many hours a week do you spend on myco stuff (not on shroomery)

Estimating Im averaging 20 hours per week over the last month

that is insane!  I am guessing it must be more than just psychs.

how much output do you expect putting in that much time?  10 lbs/ wk?  20?  50?  I have no idea.

i probably spend a few hours per week.  some weeks 2, some 5.

Im doing about 30 hours a week at the moment.

Just started back up after not doing much in the last few years.

I'm growing out all my actives for fresh prints, got about 15 varieties of cubes on the go and a bunch of wood lover projects on, cyans, azures, allenii and stuntzii and ovid too.

I'm setting up edibles to see if I can't make a little side cash eventually though I'm not expecting much, would be happy if I broke even doing a few market stalls now and then.

Doing 150lb batches of sub at the moment, still working on a grow room and drum sterilizer. They are both functional and in use but can be improved on.

Just fruiting oysters at the moment but have grain spawn ready to expand for 10 or so species of woodlover which I'll be on with soon.

It's pretty hectic, feel like I'm gonna burn out

So I finally mislabeled a jar in a rush one day and have a bunch of GT tubs instead of PE. Kinda sucked because I'm completely out of PE and need more. Whatever, fruits are fruits.

I've always given mush to friends for nothing, but since they understand these things take time/effort/money, I'm starting to charge them supplies. Trading mush for a pack of wide-mouths later this week, ha. Keep the machine going!

Been 3 or 4 days since I've inoculated my first grain jars.

Kinda concerned they're too dry. But I've read a lot of grows go bad because far too moist. So I went on the dryer side. Let drain for about 20 mins, then patted dry with a few paper towels.

Only added literally 1-4 drops of spore solution, less than half a CC per jar.

Just keep waiting?

weetsie, thats a lot man! good luck with all that! i'm at about 25 + a week with only edibles, getting set up in a new place so setting up production and all that ...first few days were non-stop 12-13hrs. now more relaxed got 120 sawdust blocks colonizing, and space for at least 130 more bags in colonizing room. once more bags come it'll be super busy again, plus i have a new full time job to start on monday  :facepalm3: , and hopefully 3 weeks i'll have market stalls on saturday....and now i feel a bit overwhelmed after reading over my post....

I just got back in from a month break and I've put in about 15 hours this week.  It's all worth it in the end.

Cool thread.

What's a good way to test isolates without using a bunch of material?  I've think the pf tek sounds great but how can I inoculate them with an agar culture, directly or indirectly?  The verm barrier is a problem.

If it's not too thick you can just suck up agar into a syringe. Munchauzen has a tek that involves squirting water onto the plate and sucking that up with fragments of agar.

Munch also has the blenderess Li tek in which you could use one plate to nocc up multiple jars.

I've never done pf tek but a good mini spawn to bulk application I plan to use to test isolates is Sloppy's double gulp tek. Its worked great for me so far with MS!

Yeah but I'm not going for bulk I"m actually just trying to test the most amount of isolates with the least amount of substrate or other materials.

Well if you plan to continue growing via pf tek, by all means test out your isolates with pf cakes. However, if you plan to use those isolates primarily on grains, I would recommend testing them on your grain of choice.

Isolates still have preferences, and may fruit better via one tek or another. If you want to test out a grain without spawning to bulk, case a tray.

I see your point.  But I think I could get a general idea with the p.f. tek and then have similar results with my bulk of choice.  I use rye and like bulk but I don't want to use it until I have the culture I want.  I'm done with m.s syringes and rye grain clones and unpredictable, contaminate-prone results.
The water agar method seems like it could work but it exposes the water to the entire surface area of the petri dish and could easily mix with an unseen contam.
Maybe I could sub the dry verm with a filter disk or just add some sterilized verm on top of the p.f. jars (sterilized w/o the verm barrier) after inoculation.
I've heard of people using p.f. to test isolates so there has to be a good way to do it.

Yeah don't bother with dry verm if you have filter disks, that shits for unequipped noobs.

I would'nt do BRF cakes myself, complete pain in the ass to make and slow as you can't shake em.

I just make 1 grain jar with a wedge and spawn it at 50% to something easy like coir or straw pellets where you can just dump hot water on them and call it that. For containers I use jars, ice cream tubs, pyrex baking dishes, plastic vegetable trays, anti static bags.. basically the first thing that comes to hand when a jar reaches 100%. Wrap it in pvc food wrap and stab a few holes for GE. If you're testing and comparing isolates then obviously you wanna use something consistent, maybe buy a pack of take away containers or something.

If you're using a filter disk on your brf jars theres no reason why you couldn't move the sub to the side with a flamed scalpel and push a wedge down there.

I mean that I intend to take my spore prints from my last grow and first, isolate as many desirable growths away from contaminates as possible and then isolate the sub-strains away from each other until I get a bunch of monocultures.  Then I would like to fruit each monoculture and compare the results to determine which ones(s) to keep.
Isolating from a clone would be easier but I think I could get better results if I isolate monocultures directly from multispore before they have a chance to mix with each other.

Just for the hell of it.

If you are planning on using the best culture on bulk in the future, you should test it out on bulk, not cakes. One strain can do great on cakes but performs less on bulk and vice versa.

If I were you, I would do a single quart of each culture and spawn that quart to a tray of your favourite bulk. Then, fill monos with these trays and put into fruiting. I've been doing nothing but trays lately, too damn easy to inspect and harvest. I fit 4 trays in a single mono so with 10 isolates, I can test them all side by side and all at once using no more than 3 monos.

I especially like trays because I had too many mushrooms to know what to do with like, months ago. This way, I can have multiple projects going on at the same time, taking less space and eventually, having less mushrooms just sitting there in storage. Just as much fun with a fraction of the baggage.

Another great alternative is Sloppyjaw's big gulp tek. You should take a look at that for sure.

This.

Also I would add to use the same sub for testing clones/isolates that you plan to use in the future. ie coir vs hpoo etc

e.g.  If you isolate a clone on hpoo, but them fruit it on coir on a larger scale later, you probably won't get as good of yields.

Shalom Everyone.

Does any know of any1 Fruiting P.subs with the help of a fridge?

Alloy tray with glad wrap atop, Trialling 8-16hrs in 5c* (RH?-TBA) then take out and put in 13c @ 80-94RH tub and play with the "massaging" of temp changes in and close to out the right conditions. Is what I'm hoping will help boost it so I can converge this in to a consistent indoor TEK, Applied with to double layer SGFC tubs or bucket.

Which is in proper trials now, So I will keep the TEK that I'm attempting in consolidation and Break it down before releasing and can wait to present successful results* (finger-crossed)

I've had some success already.. just not that well..  As few pins pop up but has a 50/50 chance of Growing or aborting.

*hints my trials of this as, Lots of people just do YEARLY/ season woodlover grows from what ive seen. but none are indoor.

pc'ing jars now. Only holds 3 quarts at a time and I made 6. Jiggler just started rocking at 9, so gonna let them go until 10:30, then take them off and shake. Do the other 3 after that. Shake. Go to work until 10, maybe 11. They should be cool by then to inoculate yeah?

Most likely... your pc is kinda small for quart jars, but perfect for some pasty plates.

It is quite small.

8qt. Looks slightly smaller than your average stock pot.

But hell as a PF steamer for almost a year now, I'm just happy to hear that jiggler hiss. I know these grains are being properly cooked, so I'm excited to see what comes of it.

Hi guys,
I am ordering some truffles from Zamnesia and I am quite low on my bags friend got for me months ago. I cannot find any useful information on these bags: https://www.zamnesia.com/mushroom-grow-supplies/987-filter-bag.html Do you think they will be good enough for use as spawn bags - even for sterilization in pressure cooker?
Thanks for advice!

One of my jars has a quart inch thick, by maybe half inches long of stuck grain in the bottom. Tried beating the hell out of the jar, can't get it. Not a huge bit, just a small bit. Everything be alright?

As tiny of two drops of MS I can get per jar.

Looking forward to agar soon, but the closest next place I can think of thatd have it is almost two hours away. Gonna run to that city next payday, but for now I've been trying WBS. Found some good shit at dollar store that only has cracked corn and white millet.

Unfortunately that chunk in the bottom is a little more than I thought. Hang on ill get pics. Was it because I lifted the jiggler to release some pressure? The water was pretty high... But almost all gone by the end of 90 mins.

It looks like your wbs is a little wet plus there are some burst grain in there and the whole thing looks starchy.  I don't mess with wbs, just rye, so maybe someone with some more wbs experience can give you a better opinion.

Also, never attempt to depressurize your p.c.  You should let it cool naturally for a variety of reasons:

*you may get burned by the steam
*The rapid release of pressure will cause more grains to burst
*It's dangerous
*It doesn't really help much anyway

You should let it cool naturally for 8 hours or so.  I've been in a hurry before and just cooked my spores cause the jars were too hot.

First couple trips i took this fellow tripper had a past trauma that revieled itself.

Not very fun for him to retell, ill spare the dark details, but he hadnt told anyone in 10 years.

5 grams made him able to communicate, or opened him up to it even if his body was a crumpled heap.

i thought if he hadnt, it would have compounded over years, maybe making his life hell.

Him and a handful of others have really multiplied my efforts.

Personally when im flying through a high dose trip those intense and often frightenig experiences
allow me a headspace when sober that i can deal with anything in day to day existance.

Also chicks only want boyfriends who have great skills.

Don't actually have to wait 8 hours, just enough for the psi to drop is enough. I normally wait until the cycle is over and move the PC in front of my hood. Once the pressure drops on it's own, I open it up and take the jars out so they cool faster.

I'm getting ready to try really hard on a monotub.

I recently am wrapping up a "no hole monotub" grow, and I feel like the flushes/pinsets could have been better. So I want to make a real monotub, and I want to make it right.

You guys never fan or mist a properly built mono? My wife is hassling me over the time I spend on this hobby... Monos literally set and forget?

I'm also taking note to use a liner. I've done 5 or 6 small mini monotubs, some with holes, others without. I feel like I'm getting better with the polyfil though. Pretty damn hard on bottom, small but not ridiculously airy on top. Hang on I'll take a pic of the outside of a small one I did that contaminated. Just trying to know if the holes are right based on the interior look of the walls.

hey guys, i didnt know where to post this the other day so i put it on the pub, but i really think its something people should be aware of in the cultivation forum.

I was reading in some academic databases a few weeks ago and noticed a study from this June that suggests that DNA-based taxonomic ID will soon be available to LE and customs.

This leads me to believe that soon more places will be banning spore prints/syringes, since a positive ID will be much more feasible than before.

screw pokemon, we should be catching all the shrooms we can and building our print/culture libraries, because i have a feeling it will get harder to do as ID becomes easier

here is my thread with more info and the study:

amen brother... that was my first thought as well... the study reads like these guys are SSSSOOOOOO excited to be able to provide LE & customs with the ability to do taxonomic DNA-based ID of psychedelic species. I wonder if they even consider the implications of what they are doing and the suffering it will cause. i suppose they have never had any loved ones locked up for a nonviolent crime....

absolutely shitty use of science and a waste of brains... kinda sad

That's... kind of a good point.  The only scenarios this might affect is unlabeled prints being sent but why would anybody just see a print and immediately assume drugs?  It's not like spore vendors have been lying about what they're selling.  Other than whores101 and drunksters anyway..

Fuck I got me an LC which recently tested clean but is a bit overgrown. Bastard is so thick that the only syringe I can aspirate the sucker with is my 60cc bastards. Of course I hadn't sterilized any of those and get everything prepped and find that the 20cc just ain't gonna cut it.

haha i concur... when i was in high school i made a modified super soaker that i filled with spores (and later LC after i learned a little more), i drove an ATV all over our cow fields spraying all the shit i could find lol... i doubt such a clumsy technique would do anything but it didnt hurt! had the best wild season ever that year on our cow farm

i think part of the reason it is only illegal to ship spores to a few states lies in the difficulty of proving that a sample is of an illegal variety, no matter what it is labeled. Ive seen dozens of cases in my research where shrewd lawyers have been able to get people out of trouble by underscoring that there is no way to prove that the spores/shrooms/monotub was indeed of an illegal variety. A good lawyer can cast doubt on just about anything, but this is the defense that usually comes up when people successfully fight fungus charges. that legal precedent may well have a lot to do with why spores are still legal most places

problem is, that argument will no longer hold water after this becomes common knowledge/practice. no telling how long that could take, but i thought it was worth mentioning

Chances are the playgrounds/parks are already loaded with a giant mycelial mat. liloldme is just adding to what's already there. The maintenance trucks will be dropping casing layers of chips and soil soon. We can be mad at them.

Relax guys I have a conscious. Swings and slides were removed years ago and they are overran by sticker bushes. haven't seen kids there since I was a 15. Either way it will be nice competition for the Galerina autumnalis and Amanita crenulata they could eat instead.

There's a picture in Stamets' "Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World" where they show a lady making spore prints on her field hat.  Once it is printed they go out walking and the wind blows the spores around.  Don't know if it works, but it couldn't hurt.

When I'm out camping I'll lay caps on my boots and pack and other gear. Then by morning or next picking I'll have spore laden gear. There's trillions of spores in shoelaces, it's how cyans end up outside of bus stops. Game trails, those rabbits and deer brush by them and run them all over the place. Peoples dogs too, as they don't eat them. I take large sheets of foil and print hundreds at a time, then load those into water bottles and walk around parks slowly letting spore solution out. Other times if the weather is bad I'll rub old matures on my rain gear and slicker with mud boots. Every little bit helps. Or if a chip dislodged while snipping then take them and toss them where other mushrooms grow. =) Some guy here who does a lot of city picking always prints on his shoes the night before he goes out.

I've just finally got my syringes from the us APE and uncut pe can't get them at all in UK just basic cubes took an age and I had to pay £13.61 customs tax on top of the postage I paid to get them here:mad:
Just poured some plates cooling in the SAB as we speak
What's the best course of action with the syringes drop on agar or drop on swab and swab agar does it matter?

I actually like to press the tip of the needle slightly in the agar so the spores have maximum contact with the nutrients. And they also won't roll around.

That's what was making lean toward swab I always seem to get a little annoying puddle swishing around but I'll give that a go last time I made a couple grooves with needle but didn't help much

I just broke up 10 half pint cakes, and am gonna spawn to bulk in a 27qt monotub. Planning to make the substrate closer to 4 inches thick. This will be my last go with BRF as I have grains going now, and I want to see a canopy. So I got a tall more square ish tub.

How much coir and Verm should I use for 10 half pints? I have some manure that's been half opened outside I could add too, but I really don't feel it adds a whole lot...

Also, can I mix the Coir and Verm dry and then get to field capacity and load into quart jars and PC to sterilize? If so, how long

Thanks!

I have a question.

I swear in the past, when I was looking up BRF to bulk, and general bulk, the ratios were 1:3, 4 at the most.

Now that I'm more specifically looking for WBS stuff, I'm seeing often 1:6-8

That seems abit much substrate. But I could be wrong.

Can someone chime in please? Thanks.

That's a really low spawn ratio.  Did these suggestions of such abysmal spawn ratios come from anytime in the last 5 years perchance?

Honestly, I can't recall. But I promise I've had locked in my head 1:4 at the absolute highest as any higher takes a while to colonize and easier for contams.

Could be bad information, I'm very eager to learn. Getting ready to post pics, but I believe I did 1:3, and obviously my substrate is super thin for a 27qt tub. Maybe 2 inches thick. Kinda rambling here instead of going back and deleting, but the exact amount I did was 1:2, so 10 half pints which I figured was a little over 2 quarts, so I did about 4 quarts of mostly Coir and some Verm. All I had.

It was just BRF to bulk so not a huge loss. The cake chunks should do fine ass is, and I figure even though I didn't add a lot of coir, the cake part of the tub should atleast still do decent.

I have grains going now that I'm excited for.

So, 1:6, 1:7, 1:8, every time in the future from now on?

What?  No, those are the low spawn ratios... I wouldn't go lower than 1:4.  I usually do more like 1:2 or 1:3.  Sometimes 1:1.

I'm totally mindfucked by this post. Sorry. I'm trying.

You say you wouldn't go lower than 1:4, then immediately say you usually do less than 1:4. What does this mean

he means he wouldn't use less spawn than 1/5 the substrate (1pt. spawn : 4 parts sub)

Commercial growers often go as low as 1:10 for agaricus spp., but for us, 1:4 is really the lowest appreciable spawn ratio you'll want to use. I prefer around 1:1.5 or so.

.... No I do more than 1:4.  I said what I meant.

We ARE talking about the SPAWN to SUBSTRATE ratio, right?  So more spawn, less substrate.  Meaning, 1:1 to 1:3.  1:7 and 1:8 are very low SPAWN TO SUBSTRATE ratios, because there is very little spawn.

a 1:2 ratio is HIGHER than 1:4

1/2 = 0,5 which is more than 1/4 = 0,25

Use anywhere from 25% to 50% spawn, if that helps.

I understand where we are missing each other.

I thought you were saying my 1:2, 1:3 was really low spawn ratios.

You were saying that when I saw 1:7, 1:8, THAT was the really low spawn ratios

Sorry for the miscommunication, I understand now.

So, 1 quart of spawn to 1, maybe two or three, parts mixed together coir/Verm or whatever. Yes?

Edit: which is what I have been doing.

Go for it. You can grab some colonized grains and just case them, they will still fruit. Using substrate will be beneficial of course, due to it's water holding capacity but my point is, there are no rules in terms of spawn to sub ratio.

i have a very tiny monotub made, 7.2 quarts, with a very contaminated failure in it. I need to take it outside, but I live kind of near a lot of people, so going outside to dump a funny looking tub thing would be odd. I have it in a bag. I probably should just buy a new tub but I made that one good. I feel like it'd work very well with 1 quart jar of grains and I have maybe a quarter or third brick of coir.

I just have one jar that's ready to go, my first grain jar, and am excited to fruit it. I've done BRF to bulk in the tiny tub, low sub ratios, and got less than great results. Will be able to plainly see that the WBS is better, I think.

you overthink a lot of stuff.
just dump the mess in your trash can, take the bag wherever you take it, and wash the tub.

Use a liner, use the liner to lift the substrate out of the tub gently, and place it in a bag, throw it away,   The liner keeping it all in one piece helps mitigate disrupted/flying contams.

is anyone else getting fed up with these people who base a whole thread around the images they post, then delete the damned pictures?

soooooooooo many threads that would be quite helpful to people reading have been rendered nearly useless by people deleting their images. and what is left is several pages of people talking about and quoting nonexistant images, referring to things we cant see. some assholes even delete their posts!! but even more common is the expired or deleted image

cut that shit out people, it is disrespectful to all the nice people who take the time to help you and anyone reading the thread out, and often it completely invalidates the value of much of the discussion for anyone but the OP, thats some lame shit

just venting :mad2:

Serotonin, you'll see one day. I realized one of my threads got like that. But if you're not a supporter, there's a cap to your total data used. So I had to delete pics to even upload new ones.

It is what it is.

I should specify, I was a supporter for a good while, just haven't been able to pay for that lately. So when I lost that status, I had to delete a bunch of stuff to upload anything

yeah its definitely the older stuff, but some of it would be gold if pics were there, and it is just irritating without it

does anyone have backups of all the images uploaded and the threads they appear in? i would love a copy of em if so

i often reference old cached indexes and am sometimes able to find where the image appeared at some point in time (waybackmachine for instance)

would there be anything against the site rules for me to set up a script to spider and index the entire site including all images uploaded so that i can at least host a local (or share it with the site) image backup server? it wouldnt be hard to do at all

low upload limits are a pain for sure, but in the age of cloud hosting, why wouldnt someone just use a free image hosting site and embed the image? the forum makes it so easy

i see lots of expired links where people did just that, but then if you click their expired link and scroll through, often you can find pics of their cats, girlfriends, girlfriends'....cats..., etc., everything but the damned image you are looking for... i guess they were trying to "cover their fungus tracks" but left the gf's cooch out for all to see

There's a gray + sign in the bar above a post and you can upvote it like reddit but not down vote. You can press and hold on it if someone +1'd your post and it'll show you who did it. You can also go into account settings to show up as anonymous when upvoting.

I don't think that works as well as we might like.  If you look at high scores, just on the first page, an "Unfuckables for Hillary" post has 11 +1s, while most other posts, at best get up to 4 or 5.  I know I will +1 if it is a really good reply to something posted, whether that something is of significance or not.

Highly voted posts are usually roasts or jokes or pictures of tits, it's rare as fuck that you'll find something actually helpful having been upvoted like that.

I don't think enough people use the +1 function in this forum. It'd really help sort out the best vs the shit. Then new registrants can see what's helpful and what's semi helpful.

Uh, it's been a thing for like, 2 decades on the internet among americans, and longer than that elsewhere since it's actually a part of language.  Space has the right to use it without being a fucknut, being.. fuckin.. whatever he is, some fancy nordic shit.

I'm saying it's been a fad.  It may have re-emerged even worse than before though.

Also, you'll notice that happens with a lot of things.  It headfucks you a little bit.  There are so many things that have been a huge thing for years, that I never encountered until one day, and then after that day it came up all the fucking time.  Some weird hivemind integration shit, I don't even know man.

im confused by the +1 feature... what is the real use if we cant search by it, and upvoting doesnt actually move anything up (like reddit)?

i guess its nice to see your posts get +1'd, but kinda seems like a useless metric if its either a measure of how many people approve of the post OR how nice the pictured tits are

we have to dig in our account to even find out if something has been upvoted, unless we are watching the post... am i missing something?

ALSO no one answered me on the image backup thing, does anyone have a backup of all the sites images? if not, is there anything wrong with me creating a spider to index all the threads and the images , so i can have a local copy that isnt missing so many images? id be happy to share it with other members, or even the site as a backup

Can you post the link for the "my best posts" page?  I always lose that one...

Here's some of the others:

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/banomatic.php
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/banlottery.php
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/dosearch.php?where=body&tosearch=both&how=all&words=SEARCH+TERMS+HERE&namebox=USER+NAME&limit=25&sort=d&way=d ; (This one's a template, You have to edit the capital letters in the URL into your search query, but it's primarily useful for showing people just how effective the search is.  I found it a little hard to grab that link otherwise, because javascript I guess.)
