I wouldn't specifically aim for tomentose or use recipes that encourage that kind of growth. Also you really need not even measure pH for simple hobby growing of cubes.
Those are all aerial puff balls, the images I have provided are all flat(ish), as they should be. In addition, not all mycelium produce the rhizomorphs being described.
Here is an image, where you can compare the difference.
Cool,.. well morphology on agar is basically meaningless. And not to measure dicks but we can compare what we've fruited from our cultures. Im happy with my results

I can make pretty plates too, and i don't have to link to ones i found on the internet.

Do those aerial spots indicate bacteria?

Have some Pan. Cyan Jamaica plates I inoculated a couple days ago with a SP. starting to have some growth but believe some or all of it is bacteria. Here are some pics.

On the flip side, the substrate in the shoeboxes of RH I recently made is starting to colonize! I set both of them up to start fruiting. The grocery bags keep sucking in. Do they need more FAE?

Thanks,
BB

I've been scouring Amazon for months now cause I'm getting real tired of putting foil and paper towels on everytime I cook up a batch of no pour plates
They dont make them anymore i searched all over also and according to the stock and the dude behind the counter of the store they only make mini squares still 4 oz... the ones i ended up getting are ziploc press and seal extra small. $2.76 for 8 at walmart.

I want to play the plate game
Now back to business...
These are my grain water & grain water/Dex plates.
The pinkish ones have no Dex( I'll double check my book to make sure later)

They are all considerable slow colonizing then my MEA. The first thing the cultures did was fuzz up and they all grew up to the top of the plate. Like a mushroom cloud. They seem to be moving along better now then before.
Below is all MEA. This is what all the cultures generally looked like prior to hitting my grain water plates.

Been around 4 weeks for these. Starting to get some water in them but doesn’t seem anything crazy, how much longer should I give them? Seems as if one of them is growing towards the top

Have they stopped? I give up a week after they stall, or when they pin. Whichever comes first

Looks like the lid is off in the second pic. Even with pf tek, you don't want to open them unless it's in still/sterile environment.

They both seem to have stalled a bit although it’s hard to tell, yeh I’d knocked the lid off just then by accident. Thanks for pointing it out lol. I think I’ll give them a few more days and see

Following Bod’s Shoebox Tek. If I have a lot of condensation lining the bags covering them to fruit is that due to lack of FAE? Susbstrate was purchased from ShroomSupply.com so no added water.

Im not big on the screw tops for agar. Its more difficult with one hand. Even those small ones are cumbersome

Does anyone know the weights of verm, water and flour in BRF-Tek? All the recipes use cups. I am trying to work out how much grain flour, in grams, is in 250ml of BRF-Tek.
I think it's 25g of grain flour per 250ml, but I am not sure.
----
Next question, what is the average BE (in %) for 284ml of BRF-Tek?
I intend to make a substrate comparison eventually.

Here's how you figure that out. You weigh measured flour so you can scale it...

It's a ratio, just follow 2:1:1.
