Im pretty sure trichodermas is a secondary decomposer and feeds on myc. While aspergillis competes with the myc and can be taken over by it... I think the only sure fire way to tell is with a microscope and im pretty sure that's not the only two green molds out there

I've actually never seen myc lose a battle on agar. It envelops both while mold myc and sporulating colonies in my experience. And I just grad the whole page about Trichoderma on Wikipedia and didn't get much enlightened.. fuck it I'll just in use whatever green I find and label it.

Has anyone tried making slurry/LC with low concentration agar?? What I mean is like an LC recipe but with some agar powder to make it thicker and goopy.

Then this goopy mixture can be inoculated to grow our culture. And when its done colonizing it can be poured to inoculate grains in bags or jars etc.

Would there be any advantage in doing this instead of standard LC? Im thinking it might make faster colonization rates since the agar acts as a platform for the myc to grow on and jump off to the grains. Basically the same reasons slurries colonize so fast.

Let me know what you think.

Read that grasshopper:shroomeryhead:

I've gone over it I just haven't read it all yet. I watched fresh cap mushrooms videos on youtube, the guy seems to have an idea what he is doing but I've never seen anyone mention coffee so I figured I'd ask.

Thanks for the link though.

Haha found bodhis view on the endospore/mold spore germination theory. Goess I'm going with the no soak version, makes a lot more sense to me!

Have you seen the little mini bales of straw at wWalmart?  I'm tempted to grab a couple.  The straw looks weird though, like it's really clean or something.

Every time I see those I just shake my head.  Those mini bales are twice as much as a regular bale of straw at the feed store!

Yeah I know they're expensive, and I have access to large straw bales,if I wanted to use it. but that size seems convenient.  Maybe good for sneaking into an apartment or something

Way overpriced, but they can be convenient.:awesomenod:
I have used it in the past with good results, and now have been using it for outdoor projects.(since I have it on hand)
It comes pretty clean, and is pretty much shredded strait from the bail.:super:

Again WAY overpriced, but nice to have around.

Also, before I jar up these oats, I think I may have over cooked them.  Made a smaller amount this time and lost track of time.

Looks like a lot of burst grain.Could get gooey/wet after the PC.
I would also let them dry longer before loading.I like my oats to be pretty dry on the outside, before PC.(I dry 4-8 hrs)
But,I'm in the learning phase as well.

I used to let mine dry for a long time in the strainer.  Sometimes up to 3 hours.  Now I dump em out on a towel on my counter and rub em down.  That speeds the drying process up tremendously

I spread out on an old screen and stirred them around occasionally.  Did the tissue test before I jarred them up so fingers crossed.  Just waiting for them to finish in the PC.

Highly doubtful, the 2 are gonna compete for nutrients and one will overtake the other, probably the shiitake. It might be possible to get both to fruit, but it'd be hit and miss.

Was wondering if this jar is fluffy myc or mold.

Also I’ve never had a dish do this.  Mold as well?

Thanks in advance,

Those jars are no good, definitely contaminated with mold.
The petri dish doesn’t look much better, hard to tell. Take some better pictures with a lght in front of and behind the plate

Thanks!  Just did a fresh batch of jars and have cultures growing on agar.  I opened the jar a little to smell and it didn’t really smell like anything.  Oh well, part of the learning process.  Here are some pics of that plate.  Just noticed it’s growing around the side of the plate as well.

Crazy that you can get such different results from the same plate.  This was transferred from the same MP.

Definitely working on that.  That was my first time transferring A2A.  Did some more last night and took a much smaller piece for transfer.

How do you guys get condense to go away when you pour agar? It's limiting my visibility a lot.

I have started sealing the petri dishes with parafilm and it is making water condense on the top of glass. Is there any remedy? Like rubbing some hydrophobic thing on top lid before sterilizing it.
