They definitely are, it's almost as annoying as trying to pick popcorn hulls out of your gum line. After brushin em with a toothbrush I say fuck it and call it go, I just make tea out of em anyway. Truffles always sit heavy on my stomach if I eat them and make the come up a bit uncomfortable, I rarely have that problem with tea, and almost never when I eat cubes.
I might try out wheat or rye after I finish this bag of oats. I have maybe 12qts left in this bag. The thing that attracted me to oats was the no soak, is it still effective with other grains? I'm super behind on my homework lol

Can you marinate/brine mushrooms like you would beef jerky? I mean I'm sure you can, but has anyone ever tried? Some sweet and spicy chili cubes sounds pretty rad

I'd rather have that than slimy cubes stuck all up in my teeth. At least the popcorn tastes good!

I got some funny shit going on with my cultures lately. They all seem to be slowing down, and some are stalling.
First noticed my plates just taking forever to grow out. Thought maybe I got a less aggressive culture. But then I realized all my cultures we're doing it. 2 weeks for a plate to grow. Same MEA I've always used. I also noticed, on the plates that I took transfers from and actually kept around, seemed to get a burst of life.
I use parafilm on my plates and i goes around the dish 2+ times.
I had a ape clone on grain, five jars, all from agar. After I gave them a shake, they started to recover nicely and grew out for a day or two, then just stalled. After a watching them for a week, they were crawling at a snail's pace. When I dumped them the other day, only one had a off smell.
Did my first G2G, same thing. All but one recovered quickly, grew for a few days then stalled. The Masters were super clean, colonized decently quick, A2G.
As it stands, majority of my jars have stalled. Same temp range I've been running for two years(67-72 with a few spikes now and again),same closet and setup and environmental parameters I've been running for 1 year.
In front of my hood last night, I took two of the G2G jars, and aired them out. They both smells like processed grain and clean myc. I'm going to see if the fresh air makes a difference like it did with the plate the jars were a little drier then I normally like them. I shoot for 70% water and these landed at 66%. They all look clean.
The only culture that looks un-effected at every stage, is my pe clone. That clone has never given a fuck about anything, except a peat based casing. Lol
Here's one of the 2 masters I G2G

Here's the off smeeling ape jar before I tossed it

So I changed my heat source yesterday so I have more consistent temp and better FAE. Moisture has reduced and a couple strains seem to be colonizing more rapidly.
Here is The Mazapatec:

And the Roatan Honduras:

With the MC I only have one jar of grain. Should I use a shoebox Tek?

The word you're looking for is colonizing. Spawning is the act of mixing colonized grain (spawn) with bulk substrate

First of all, your grain is overcooked which makes for slower colonization and more prone to bacteria, also makes the jars look dirty and harder to see through.
Did you shake those already?
You can turn one jar into 100 with a couple grain to grain transfers.

Don’t think I want to do G2G transfer on this batch. First time prepping oats, working with agar, etc. maybe they won’t be able to spawn. Still want to be prepared if they can.
Have a nice looking plate of MC I want to use on the next batch, need to make more jars though.

Still learning but making corrections along the way so I don’t make the same mistake twice.

That plate could use a few more transfers. The raised areas are indicative of hidden bacteria

I do downward on wood lovers and T-Gel, not that it matters when it penetrates the agar.
