Did my first A2A and A2G transfers last night. Butchered 3 petris of Cambodians that were looking good but I guess that’s part of the learning process. Got a few solid transfers with the Mazapatec mycelium though. This one in particular. It’s been less than 20 hours and it has already made its way down to the new agar. Is this is the type of growth you want to keep an eye out for?
Thanks in advance!

You want a much smaller chunk to transfer. Like a small triangle around the size of a grain of rice.

Yeah this was my first time transferring with agar. Will take some time getting used to working with the medium. Other than that does the culture look strong?

Impossible to tell right now. Wait a few days.
First time working with supplemented sawdust and I made 25 bags. I'd say they are roughly 3 lbs each.
Got some dowels and sawdust going in jars to make logs this winter. Managed to fit it all into 4 PC's

How long and at what PSI do you plan sterilizing the bags? I've read with supplemented sawdust 4 hours at 19 PSI is important.

Everywhere Im seeing says 2hrs is fine.
Figured I'd do 2.5hrs at 18ish Psi.

What is the sawdust supplemented with? The supplementation is the call for longer sterilization.

The supplement is the reason to sterilize instead of pasteurizing. The thermal mass of sawdust is the reason it needs to be for a long time.

Would you explain thermal mass for me?

UTFSE! No I'm just kidding! The wood is denser than most substrate so it takes longer for the heat to reach the center and get it all sterilized.

Speaking of sawdust... all the sawdust in my shop goes into a single collection bin. Hardwood, pine, and, unfortunately, some pressure treated. Would you think that 2-3% or so PT sawdust would have enough chemicals in it to ruin a whole bag?

I'm not versed in chemically treated woods or substrates.. Although I can say that I would not personally use anything that has been chemically treated to grow my mushrooms.

Thermal mass is the ability of a material to absorb, store, and transfer heat energy. It is the term used in building design/construction for the heat capacity of the building materials. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_capacity
Pretty much the amount of heat that needs to be applied and for how long, vs. the conductivity of material and size of the container, in order to get the whole thing up to temperature.

It takes longer to get the center of a big bag of sawdust to sterilization temperatures than jars, thus, you go 3 hours instead of 60-90 minutes for jars. It's not because of added supplementation.

I’ve cloned a fruit and this is what it looks like on agar.

Is the best way to go about this to grow out each side individually but also combined?

Are you talking about how you should go about taking wedges for transfer?
