Can I use agar to inoculate PF cakes? Do I skip the dry verm layer and just drop a wedge in there?

Is it cool to do a pc run with some pour agar for 2.25 hours because I want to run whole oats at the same time?

tiamo, I'd say yes, just use a filtered lid instead of a verm barrier, and to wtfcrazymofo I'd say no. You will probably caramelized the nutrients, rendering them useless. I've never actually pc'd agar that long, I'm simply giving you an educated guess

pretty sure you will destroy the sugar or nutes with much more than 45 min for no pour.
I think pour agar can go slightly longer since there is so much material together it doesn't overheat as fast.
But I wouldn't push it.

You can cook non sugar based agar for that long. I've done so before. Malt, or corn starch agar for the win.

fyi, malt is a sugar.
Quote:
Malting grains develops the enzymes required for modifying the grain's starches into sugars, including the monosaccharide glucose, the disaccharide maltose, the trisaccharide maltotriose, and higher sugars called maltodextrines.

Depending on the pH of the media starches can also hydrolyze to simple sugars and subsequently caramelize in a PC. Basically just avoid PCing agar or LC for excessive amounts of time if possible.

I had a feeling it would because of the amylopectin content, which is a type of glucose. I just wasn't sure, so I didn't want to speak without assurance.

What kind of lunch box or other containers do you guys use?
If they are stacked up a few high will they be ok without insulation?
How long will a slightly thick poured plate last in the fridge before drying out?
On another note, If I pick 1 or two mushrooms at the perfect time and I don't want to use a dehydrator for just 2 fruits would storing them in the fridge preserve potency the best until a larger batch comes in to dry?

Fresh ones rule. dried ones are not the same(less). I would give them 2 weeks in a brown bag fridge.
