Pasteurization wouldn't change the pH very much if at all. It's for contamination resistance but peat specifically may not really need it
Ive never pasteurized jiffy mix seed starter to use as a casing before. Should be total blasphemy but it worked great.

Environment likely plays a role. Cold and dry up there right? Doubt it would work in hot and humid climates. Maybe for fast fruiting species like cubensis or panaeolus but if working with slower to fruit species like mexicana or hoogshagenii or even something like zapotecorum, leaving untreated soil laying around for over a month sounds like bad practice. Why not take an hour to pasteurize

Jiffy is pre pasteurized with lime.
Man I think this humidity is really fucking me up on grains my masters r hella slow compared to the usual.
I'm still gunna spawn those bags fukkit.
This hobby can be very frustrating sometimes. I haven't gotten a solid flush from anything past a master jar in a few weeks.

I think I was able to decipher that gibberish. Yeah there are times when you can get away with all kinds of things and nothing you do turns out bad. Then BAM! Everything you touch turns to shit!
I'm happy to stay in the middle of the road. Nothing great, but I try not be a trich farmer either.

So... Fukkit? Would you use it?

There have been many times when my peat hit 180. oh shit, WTF did i DOOOOO!! but, being me and working a lot, i used it anyway with success. i can only assume it was the hydrated lime that helped in these instances. so again, peat is more flexible than u might think with proper conditions in your tub and a strong buffering agent. but to be safe, and what I do these days, is to follow what is outlined above, so your peat casing becomes more of a control than a variable

I'd just toss it and pasteurize it properly. You can use the practice and it's not a labor intensive process.

After prepping my grains the other day I had a small amount left over. I split what was left into 2 extra jars that were left and experiment a bit to see what I could learn good and bad.
I could see there were some spores left in the syringe caps so I put a grain in each cap then put them in the partial jars. Wasn’t expecting much if anything as the grains hadn’t been PC’d.
It’s starting to look like I have a mixture of mycelium and green mold and was wondering if it would be worth while to clone the mycelium onto agar or if I should just scrap them. If not, no harm done. Just curious.

Maybe I'll just have to not fully hydrate the grains then let them suck up excess water during PC cycle.
I think my humidity is fucking me when I make grain too. It's been super high pass few weeks.
I just use the bucket tek then load my wbs into bags or jars without drying. I've had jars sit for 6+ months with no sign of contam. What does drying do?

Lol. That’s kind of what I thought. Are the jars and lids themselves reusable or should I chuck it all?

Re-usable, just wash them.. and you will be re-pcing anyway... nothing lives through that.

If you have contams but want to save the jars/lids, just wash them like normal dishes but I usually do this in a spare unmodded tub outside. Never any reason to open a contam inside

Sometimes I chuck the lids, too. I have had stalled jars several times this year. When a jar stalls I mark it. If it is fails on the next run, it's out.

Venting vs weight from the start no venting. Same cooker with one quarter taped to the weight.
244f vs 259F that seems small but its a HUGE difference
Are you saying that you get higher temps when you do not vent air from the cooker before adding the weight?
I thought I read in your pc tek that venting the air was the proper way. Am I misreading something here?
