Would it be wise, in this situation, to change out the media formulation occasionally to keep the myc on its toes, so to speak?

Most people I respect here recommend it. I can tell you that not doing it won't ruin the whole show or anything.

That's what I do with culture slants. I change the media after 6 months. I never changed the media while isolating.

Hey there,
pretty old head here. I remember when PF Tek was invented and Hippie3 was still alive
besides PF Tek, growbags, monotubs, have there been any real innovations in the last 5 or so years I should know about?
If not, groovy, I'll just carry on.
If so, please send me some info because I've been reading like crazy and it seems to all be the same info on LC teks, monotubs, and the like.
Thanks and Namaste

Lots has been clairifyed and adjusted in the last few years. Depending on where you were some might be news and some might not. Stick around and you will see what's up soon enough I'm sure.
As for your problem you have 3 options. 1 buy a bigger PC. 2 use smaller jars like pints. 3 break your jars using just a rag.
Welcome back.

Noob, try not to say something's okay unless you've done it. There's a good reason we raise jars from the bottom of the PC. I mean, I've heard of people taking out the trivet in an AA, but I don't know if it's different because of how much more slowly they depressurize.
oops. NM, you get it, I guess. I used to try using towels for a while too. I had a shitty little PC that held like, 3qt. jars if positioned just right, and because the clearance was so tight, I used to use a towel. But you're really shortening the lifespan of your jars, and they could break in your hands as you try and lift them out of the PC later. Cheap, thin aluminum PC's depressurize quickly, and drop heat quickly too. So, it's just not a good idea.

I mean the rag has worked before, maybe I'll move to bags.
What kind of filter would I use if I just used a DIY ziplock with either liquid culture or grain transfer?
