Yeah I understand I don’t like tossing a bunch of plastic either. But I definitley can’t recycle them
My recycling takes polystyrene
I meant I can’t recycle them full of mycellium unless I clean them first

You sure about that dude? So far there is no real conclusive method for fully recycling polystyrene, especially if it isnt expanded polystyrene, and most municipal and corporate trash collection facilities specifically ban polystyrene foam and plastics from going in the recycle bin.

Lol guess i was mistaken. Wonder what they did with all of em LOL. Our mayor was talking about some new technology recycling shit for plastics like PS but its being done by some other big businesses privately still.

they sent them to a landfill.
there are methods to recycle about anything, but the US recycling industry is VERY far behind the game because we relied on China to do the vast majority of our recycling, and subsequently they became very good at it while we learned nothing.
Now that China is refusing our recyclables, the US is tasked to do it. And we just aren't very experienced or knowledgable with it.

Anything ever come from that hole?
I throw spent subs there so lots, not a whole lot from petri pucks though, they dry up quick exposed to the elements. Also for me Pixel its easy, I cut a piece of plastic and use it as a spatula to scoop it out. Its not hard but it is tedious doing 50-100 plates, then I got to wipe them out and sterilize too

I'm making up 4 or 5 qts of grain for some cube varieties tonight or tomorrow and super excited! I feel like a newb.
Had to trash my projects due to a jerky landlord and moving into my gf place, so this will be my first cube to grain in a month. Excited to see how my shoeboxes will do in the mono at my new spot and start up my print giveaways again

Rock on fisherman!
Anyone know a good, cheap, easy alternative to test tubes for culture cold storage. I don't really want to order slants. I was thinking about them little whiskey bottles you can get for a couple bucks at the beer store. Any siggestions?

Petri dishes lol. They last 6+ months on a shelf and ive brought back petris over a year from the fridge. I find that suits juggling a culture more than well enough. You could also put a wedge into a micro centrifuge tube and store those

Awesome. I use the little ziplock containers with screw on lids. How deep does the agar need to be? And how wet? I been using 2 percent agar.

Can anyone PM me a link to amazon plastic wide mouth lids?
I am getting some mixed info on which ones are safe in the PC and which ones would hold up to gentle drilling for GE port... Hoping to order 16 or so as I want to have 12 new lids (extras for cracking)
I think we can't link here but if we can, share the knowledge!
Thanks all Got a $6 for a dozen jar deal on local CL and think it will be worth it even if I have to buy some lids...

Pour thick so the agar doesbt dry. The rest doesnt matter

I dont have a link but advice. If you want plastic lids then i suggest melting the hole instead of drilling it, that way you won't crack any. Also, get silicone seals with them.
Or better yet, get single peice metal lids. They come with built in seals. They are made for one time use so back the lid off the jar during the pc cycle so the seal doesnt warp. Other than that i prefer metal because they don't warp and try to cross thread like the plastic ones do

You can add some popsicle stick chunks as well. Keeps the culture going for longer in storage.

I keep tons of dishes in the fridge and several are almost year old. And they are all fine. I like to store them in insulated lunch boxes in the vegetable drawer of the fridge.

The ones at target worked fine they were $4 . ball brand. If you do decide to melt a hole it can leave extra plastic on the top so you might have to remove a small piece to lay a sfd on it.

I've never had a problem with the white plastic ball brand lids. Survived plenty of PC cycles
