Hardly. Unless you live in a very humid climate there’s no reason to worry about sealing them up air tight. If they’re dry, the goods are locked in.
Good to know!

IMO this is still a concern... maybe not if you're packing them up within the first hour, but if this is the case why even worry about a timer
People pack their dried shrooms in airtight containers because leaving them in the open air exposes to moisture, and any moisture in your dried shrooms is bad for long term storage

I keep them in zip lock bags and never had a problem. We ate some 3 year old cubes the other day stored in this way and they were as potent as when they were first grown. Like I said, climate has a lot to do with it. It’s dry as a desert where I live so it’s not an issue.

I've heard 18-24 to be on the safe side. And it's not a matter of being attentive, it's a matter of being busy. If it's the middle of the day now and it's time to harvest, I'm going to do it. And they're going straight into the dehydrator as soon as they are picked. If I'm at work 24 hours from then, I can't help that. But I don't want the dehydrator running any longer than it has to. It's a waste of electricity and I'll be paranoid about fire.
Re: storage, after being dehydrated they last for like weeks in unsealed sandwich bags. I'm not going to have anything uneaten for more than a couple months. With a 24 hour cycle at 165 they will hold fine.

I hear ya... I regularly ate years old bags of shrooms that were fan dried. They were bendy and shit... still tripped hard and never noticed any issues with them. Didn't get sick either

Running an 800w dehydrator 24 hours at above the national average electricity cost is still under $3 and under $5 if you live in Hawaii. If its UL listed it's less of a fire hazard than an incandescent or halogen light bulb.

I can get my shrooms cracker dry and sealed for months but if they are left out for just 6-8 hours they will be bendy and soft A low rh day would be in the high 40s - 50s here

Regarding casing, I notice today in this mono I have fruiting that the pin clusters are all forming where there are still patches of coir
Is it normal for the fruits to prefer pining where coir is and wouldn't that make casing layers optimal?
Or is it just me not getting my entire surface dialed in right? There were beads across entire surface, including the colonized parts...

That is a very curious thing you've observed there , they group very tightly on the coir bits.

What the hell?
My coir brick isnt hydrating
Poured 3L water ~65C hot, and this is how it looks 1.5h later. LOTS of standing water and the shredded coir has only absorbed on the surface. Usually after 30min the coir is fully hydrated and it raises almost to the rim of the tub, this time it sits at the bottom like I left it after I poured the water.
Any ideas? Anyone experienced this before?

And 3L water is on the dryer side for my 700g bricks, I like to finish off with spray bottle if it’s too dry. This time I was thinking going even dryer and later experiment with dunking before fruiting.
Same brick I always use, same method. This brick was from mar-apr but it was inside sealed plastic.

Shredded it into coin size pieces, poured water, came back 20min later and saw that the coir didn’t even begin to rise inside the tub. Tried mixing it up but mostly water splashing around. Spent the last 30min breaking up the pieces with fingers, and have to say that ~95% of the coir has been broken up completely but it’s still separated from the water. The fibers separated but they don’t seem to absorb water.

Does the coir that has been wetted hold water?(field capacity test) Something is definitely not right there, but I wouldn't be able to tell you what happened.

I’d probably just use a different brick of coir at that point if it’s still not absorbing any water.

Yeah this was unusable by the only one I had at home. On the other hand I just threw away all of the 10 spawn jars I was going to spawn so it doesn’t matter after all..
