You could just soak millet 6-12hrs. Drain. Load slightly damp and pc.
Comes out great for me

yeap extended soak always works very well if you're having a hard time
i still do about half of my WBS cold soaked for 7-24 hours depending on when I get to it, just because sometimes its more convenient to let it soak if i'm not immediately ready to PC

Speaking accurately is important. People confuse rolling boil with simmer all the time. Me calling you out for inaccurate grain prep just saved who knows how many future readers hours of time and money. you are welcome.

Damn dude chill out on the concern trolling. How much time and money does a batch of exploded millet waste anyway? 30 minutes? 50 cents? You really think countless people would read my general discussion post, in which I included ample disclaimers, and run with it? Jeez I didn’t know people took me that seriously.

I hope those future readers read more than the posts made on July 2nd 2018. If not, and they fuck up, were here to help those who want to learn, not expect results, and learn from eachother.

I’ve learned that 3 jars so far all have different types of mold. My agar must be hiding something or I was having a bad day when I did those 8 jars

Hmm. What's your grain prep? How many did you inoculate in your SAB at one time, did you feel comfortable moving around them?

Did seven in a small SAB could be that. Followed foomans tek for wbs and PC for 90 minutes.
I also did all SFDs for the first time under a plastic lid so actually that’s most likely the problem. One jar I dumped the SFD actually had mold growing in and on it. Next Run I’ll be cutting SFDs and I will silicone them to the top hole.
Check this nasty shit out

So far two of the ones that had issues where those lids. But the one millet jar had a metal lid but that was something else all together and probably a fumble during inoculation as it showed mold all over in only a couple days. These others have been going for a week or so.
I am still very new to agar but have been posting most of my plates in the TC thread before I use any of them just to triple check my agar. I’ve never seen mold in my agar yet but I know they can be sneaky.

Hmm. I haven't seen my filter mold. What do you mean under a plastic lid? Was the lid unmodified or did you have a hole in it screwed down on top of the filter disk?
The way the mold is on top, and not around your jar makes me wanna say it's your filter. Because you shook those jars after you put the wedge in there.
I bet youve got it on your next go.

1/4 inch hole drilled in the top of the lid with the synthetic filter pushed in snug underneath the lid like this
I think they may have trapped moisture and stayed wet somehow but I’m not sure.
I guess just trial and error to figure out what works for me

Disregard my post thats its the agar. Those are nasty and its the filter under the lid wicking moisture indeed. Good to hear youve debug it & found your source. I always learn new things by lurking here.

We will see if that’s the only issue I’m sure it’s a combo of things because I did have that one jar with a metal lid mold but I think that was something else altogether it went green in a day or two.
Either way I’ll get it figured out with all of the info and knowledge here st the shroomery. And all of the helpful people as well

I think cutting your SFD and using RTV will solve your problems.
You don't need to make the SHIP but by sealing the filter tight around the hole with the RTV, it may reduce your moisture accumulation under your SFD and extend the life of a disk making multiple jars with one disk.

Youll come a long way brother being observant 5 shrooms for yah., Atleast Fixing even just one flaw at a time make a huge difference at my part. +90% success rate from finding one flaw to debug.
Metal lids + polyfill doesnt let me down.
@mushhunter is also right sealing them also helps. its also better to place the filters outisde/top of the lids to let them dry better after a cycle.

Yeah I think it will help by having it on top because it can dry out if it does get. Under the lid it can’t really dry out. I’ll try it out and see I have more SFDs on the way.
