Now I'm going to not by that brand again, however for interests sake, would it make it easier to break up if I dropped a marble into the centre of the grain after filling up the jars with dried grain, would that help break it up in the shake?
Doubtful. Maybe if the marble was above the grain but it would probably just get locked inside.

I'd be afraid it could shatter the jar.

What about at the bottom? what about using a ball bearing of some sort? (one that wont rust). Or a piece of shattered porcelain?
Just spitballing ideas

I´m sure there are many different ways of combating poorly prepped grain, but why set that as your standards by anticipating failure?
It´s much better to try different methods that work, experiment until you learn what works for you. But yeah, you should expect at least a good grain prep out of yourself! Don´t 'prepare' for catastrophy, like not being able to break up grain after the cycle
To be honest, I might actually have prepped the grain quite alright cause the bottom 7 jars were like shit, but the top 3 had only a few small clumps. I think water got into the bottom jars. This happens to me way too often to be totally honest

I'm only preparing to fail in the sense that I still have a bit of this poorer quality grain left, but I do have a much better straight millet as well that will be used for primary grows. I dont have this issue at all with my favourite grain Milo.

Grain is cheap AF. If it was me I'd fling it out in the yard. Stick with your Milo and millet until you get bored. Then switch it up.
I'm not going to spend 6 or so hours on making a batch of grain that I know turn out shitty. I'd rather feed the birds and other critters with it.

Cheap shitty grain for me all day long
It colonizes and grows fine
May not prep perfectly, but in the end, it doesn't matter.. and anyway you just need to learn how to prep it and it will be fine. A few extra rinses and a slightly lower temp on the simmer, and no clumpy/sticky any more... but it doesn't even matter if it is anyway, for me at least..
$5 for 20LB? Hell yeah

I would spend the extra and get the straight millet personally! Using finch mix atm and most stores carry cheap 100% corn free. The only down side to these cheap WBS with or without corn is the peanuts!

I've never seen a single peanut in any grain I bought. They're very expensive here.

My first try with white millet turned into mold in the jar. Idk if I didn’t sterilize it right or not but I’m scared to try it again I have 25 pounds sitting around

My wbs doesn’t even list peanuts I made 8 jars up and found a random peanut sitting on top of one after the fact. Quote:

Inoculated it with agar but the mold showed in like 3 days it was very quick. I started a thread for different millet prep methods and just picked one to try while I was doing wbs. This one I tried you just mix the millet/water and a dash of gypsum in the jar and pc it. I did 90 minutes on that one. That was my first jar that showed mold.
