Pearled barley has had the hull and bran removed. Probably not ideal for spawn. But I'm sure you can make it work.

If an sfd from a sponsor site doesn't specify itself as cellulose, is it safe to assume it's PTFE? The descriptions don't really say. They just say synthetic filter disk. Usually cellulose ones are made distinct by calling them cfd's so I'm sure it's not that. I'd like to try running these without foil first. If it works for me reliably that saves me a step in grain prep.

I'm doing nothing except watching plates grow out and watch my pan myc slowing leave agar wedges to the grain.
This is like watching paint dry, man!

got some ms jars all about 20 percent 3 weeks in
only inoculated with 3 drops each
think this is the reason for slower growth
no sign of contam as far as i know

First time doing the PF tek (I've always done grain) and I think I got the water content a little off (the substrate wasn't quite fluffy enough) but I went ahead anyway. I've got quite a few projects going and I just didn't feel like doing this one over again. Only made these up for a few syringes I've had laying around I wanted to get rid of. To me, it looks odd. But I'm not sure if it's due to excess water or some bacterial contamination. Might open one just to inspect it. What do you guys think?

Ive yet to get a contamination so maybe I'm due. I do allot of agar work and my sterile teqnique is pretty thurough. This is literally my first time doing anything with multispore. The spores came from a friend who's got a pretty good record. The needle was sterilized in between jars so I'm think if it is bacteria it had to be in the syringe. Weird tho it's from two syringes of two different strains. Thanks for the input guys.
cheers

Is there any available material on the process of how/why mycelium distributes nutrients/water/energy throughout the network? While RR is convinced, there's no proof light is used as energy in the standard definition, IIRC. But it's interesting to me that I get massive bottom fruits where no light reaches. The obvious reason would be the excess water the bottom of the substrate is likely holding. However, I'm curious if we understand how/where/why the network distributes its energy/resources.
Primarily I'm curious if we've observed the transfer/sharing of directly available resources from one area to another down the line without these resources, i.e., mycelium thriving on properly hydrated and nutritious substrate connecting to a less-than-optimal one, yet still fruiting from it?

Mycelium can transfer nutrients, water, and even oxygen more than feet away to fruit in more suitable locations, like the surface of the planet or a tree.
I think i have some books on mycology in my journal that have pictures and sections talking about it.

Any chance if you find the sections you can reference them for me to take a look at?

I went looking for it and got trapped in the entry about Anne. Great thread. Lots of plot twists. I'll go looking again later.

Mycelium may be able to transfer nutrients and water some distance but for sure it chooses to conserve energy whenever possible.
I think we use way too much light. Time and time again I see huge shrooms coming out of tubs that I have taken out of my room that are kept in a very low light environment with a short day cycle. Healthy and normal but big. I feel like there is a trigger that we don't play with a whole lot. Light cycle/intensity and temps seem to be a part of it.

How long can live tissue fragments of the common molds survive in the air, are we talking about seconds, minutes, hours or days? Does anyone has an estimate on this?

My guess would be awhile. Water availability is a big factor im sure.
What is the longest I should wait for full colonization with lc?

I'd have to say weeks or months are the safest bet. It sure ain't seconds.

I was very careful to keep my bucket of coir away from the spawn and the shoeboxes when I was spawning, everything separate nothing that touches the spawn touches the coir and so on..
Now after a week the coir looks good but smells a bit like mold, I couldn´t find any type of visual indication of mold and the mold smell is vague but still I can feel it.
So could one potentially have an infestation of live microscopic mold fragments contaminating my grows and coir?
Or is this nothing much to worry about?

Harvest the first flush of a cloned creeper. Hoping to get a second flush. I let some stragglers grow, but they seemed to of already broken their vail and reached full growth. Can anyone elaborate why these are so stunted? Is this what an abort does or looks like? The harvested fruits were 5x times the size and had a different shaped cap.

the sub feels it when you pull out the bigger fruits, thinks it's time to finish off the others quickly before they also get pulled, and there's never enough moisture in the sub to fill up all the shrooms equally in size.
Pick em and dunk the sub for your next flush.

Gonna throw up a question for ya guys.
Has anyone dealt with fungi going black in a dehydrator? Never had this problem until today.
