Youd need a rubber gasket. Check your hardware store plumbing section then drill your holes according to that.
Maybe strong magnets on both sides of the plastic wall separated by a rubber or a plastic sheet?

So the holes in the tub need to provide solid ge with micropore, and still become watertight when some sort of plug is installed. Maybe some sort of pvc bracket?
All my tubs have holes but I've floated them a bunch of times. Just tape the holes with several layers of electrical tape, I'm not even sure if it's called electrical tape in English.

Or just do unmodified and you won't need the tape. Be sure to drain the sub really well after harvest, I use the tub in tub trick and flip both tubs so that the sub is on the roof of the second tub. Like in the pic.
Sub can get soggy with this method and trich can say hello if you don't drain well.

Cased them with coir a couple days ago, they're munching away on it. Looks like coir colonizes faster than straw.

That's because of the air pockets/space between each individual piece of straw. The mycelium actually has to go airborn in order to get to the next piece. That's why it's recommended to shred the crap out of it.

I'll look into that JHOVA. Rubber might be the way to go. If I could get a ring to fit snug around my holes, and a plug that can squeeze in there snug, that'd work great. I'll have to browse some hardware stores this weekend to see some options.
It's nice to know I can fall back on electrical tape. And yes that's what we call it josex lol. I'm thinking of putting a drain plug in the bottom and then leaving it tilted towards the drain in my bathtub for a while after each harvest. Hopefully that would be enough. I'm pretty sure if I can drain out the excess, then all in all my sub would be very happy with a good dunk. If I have to choose modified vs unmodified, I'm going to go with the modified and just suck up the added difficulty in harvesting, but dammit I want to have my cake and eat it too.

I like to dry the tub the sub was in with paper towels after draining all that water, while the sub is upside-down on the second tub. I leave the sub draining like that for half an hour to drain well then I put it back in the original tub. I got trich 2 times for not draining well the sub after floating it.

That sounds easy and reliable enough. Thanks for the tips.

That method is good for canopies, when you see that harvesting is gonna be a bitch from hell if you don't float. If you can harvest normally do it, foating is gonna be more trouble than anthing else in that case and dunking a sub that didn't produce a heavy flush is asking for trouble imo.

Get an extra tub and donβt mod it. When you harvest, drop your modded tub in the unmodded and fill βer up. When done you can probably slowly lift out the modded tub, and most of the water will drain out. If you end up with multiple modded tubs, you still only need one without holes to harvest.

I usually leave so much water you can see a 1-2cm line all the way around the substrate. Idk hasn't caused me any problems really

Yeah I used to leave pooling water without problems until problems came, could be the spawn too who knows, but the spawn looked clean to me and the sub looked healthy. Also I take my sweet time to harvest, enough to get the sub soggy. I've got a hunch you must harvest in like 2 min with that nifty knife.

This is a really clever way to do it, but unfortunately this thing is gonna be hard enough to pick up just from the substrate weight. Add in gallons of water and you can forget about it.

To be clear, 1-2cm up from the bottom of the tub?
Edit: yeah I can see about how much would be left over now, rereading the tek.

Ceramic knives are the shit. The mushies I cut with ceramic knives don't blue as fast as ones cut with steel. Whatever that means

Yes, that's what you're left with if you just drain the water normally, it's inevitable.
