1. Per bodhi, that's unnecessary. Just throw away contaminated jars like you would any food that went bad.
2. That's a really interesting idea. Not sure I've ever heard it before. I wouldn't think you would be able to fill the jar because you wouldn't be able to swirl it or even really move it without soaking your filter. But somebody, I think mushboy , makes LC's by dumping a plate of agar into media. Surely the inverse would work. Wait for some more experienced peoples opinions but it sounds interesting to me. Could be tricky getting a wedge down in there to inoculate the agar in the beginning.

It's the "shake the shit out of it" part of the tek that you wouldn't be able to do. But he is also just using sterilized water to make a liquid inoculate. With an actual LC media used instead of just sterile water, it might colonize right off the agar over a few weeks.

I’d recommend working with cultures on agar for a while before venturing into LI territory. You need to be able to spot a clean culture and even then its a gamble. I’d recommend getting a clean culture and dropping it into a jelly jar of sterilized water instead of the other way around. Practice small before going big is my 2 cents. Blenderless LI for practice

I either do the poke or use the smallest wedge I can cut.
Or I drop agar pins into lc

Just did my very first pour and it went smooth so far. These are 3 compartment petri dishes. Waiting for these to cool because i have some very nice growth on some other dishes that needs to be seperated.
I always do a prepour method and its been successful so far, but theres nothing like the flat surface of a petri. Im going to do a couple of the best growths to my prepour dishes because i know ive gotten good at it. But i hope these work out.

1. I saw bleach doesn't kill trich, but yeah hot water. can I dilute and heat them and inject it to the jars so it kills the trich and it safe to open and toss it? Will it work?
2. Can I do agar in quart jars and if the myc is healthy inject 1quart of sterilised lme/water to make LI?
LOVE <3
1: I've heard that you can PC it and dump it and then just re-use the jars right after- I'd probably dunk em in something too, but I don't want to toss jars
2: I had the same idea last time I poured agar and had some left in the bottom of the bottle! I should try it.

Nice. Petris are awesome. Good luck.
I store my petris two per sandwich bag in a sterilite until inoculation.
After inoculation get wrapped in parafilm and put back in the bags and sterilite.
On cleaning jars: I use a stick in the back yard on days not doing sterile work. I use a 5gal bucket with soapy water and dunk n' swirl after most of the grains are out go with the stick again.
No pc needed.
On agar in quarts, sure. Pick a proven tek and follow it. I would use something shallower so you don't have to reach your hand/the needle into the agar container. Agar and sterile water with shaking I have heard of for sure. I personally stick to g2g.

Yes, i thought about putting them in ziplocks, but these lids dont even snap. The petris i first got, the lids kinda snapped on. I destroyed the first attempt at a pour.
I was picking up my agar bottle getting ready to pour and i knocked the whole stack over. Pissed me off so bad i started stomping the petri dishes into the floor. This time it went very smooth though.
Thanks, Ghost

I'm looking at a 2:3 ratio of verm to coir to reach a good sub depth in the tub I'm looking at, if I want it to be evenly divisible by bricks of coir. Do you think I could bucket tek that? Damions tek only goes up to 2 qts of verm. It'd be 8 qts coir with 5 1/3 qts of verm, plus probably like 6 or 7 qts of water to reach field capacity.

On agar in quarts/media bottles as LC starter- you could cool it at an angle, or completely flat if you were careful, to have agar on the wall of the vessel. Then, inoculate it the way you would a big slant sans wood?

Where should I dump my used bulk from my mono? Bio waste or mixed waste? I don't have big enough bio bags to throw it all in to the bio waste, so I'm considering the mixed waste, but not sure if I can do that. I can't really go outside to throw it anywhere on the ground, as I live in a city.

You can turn the jars at an angle for agar. Aero does this with smaller jars with success.
Substrates can go in the regular trash.

They shouldn't. Compost anything that came from plants or fungi. Small steps make big changes towards a brighter future

Hey guys, just wanted to show the progress of my first pour method in 3 compartment petri dishes. Ive always used flat mason jars for my agar, because ive always been intimidated by pouring petris. These were done right after my last post up there after they cooled.
It is like night and day how quickly these transfers are spreading out. These transfers were cut from extremely rhizomorphic growth. So far, no contams.

Also, just wanted to show off a transfer i made the other day that looks like a caterpillar.
Thanks,Ghost

Silly or nah: I've begun using 18ga needles instead of scalpels. I snap the needle off at the base, flatten the end with some pliers so I can hold it with an x-acto, and the tip of the needle is sharp enough that you can use it at an angle to cut through agar/myc pretty easily.

I've taken a break from studying spore germination and have started looking at other aspects of fungi in general. Right now is horizontal gene transfer and fruiting body development. If anyone has some recommendations on something to study recreationally I'm all ears. I'll report back anything I find interesting if anyone cares to read.
