What would the profit margin be on that? After time, work and supplies? I watch all these
mushroom farmers on youtube and I can never figure out how much they make.

My guess is it pays a mediocre wage unless you ramp up and have employees and some serious square footage. Couldn’t imagine a solo op bringing in more than 1k profit a week, and that would be 80-100 hour weeks

Exactly. I don't want to work 24/7. And everyone I see on the tubes looks like they are busting
their ass all the time (Myers Mushrooms, What the Fungus, etc). Not only that but the amount
of money sunk into the operations is not small.

I assume that's why most outsource their spawn. Hard work is where the best things are at. All you have is the right to work, not the fruits of work

Financially independent

I’d love to be able to do it as a job. Except for $1000 a pound

I bet it would be more profitable if you grew your own grain. Make it as sustainable as possible. For mother earth

Hey all. Finally discovered two distinct localized germination events on the same plate, PE, 100X, on Sabourauds Dextrose. So happy! First time I've been able to get germination. In my studies on germination, I gave a sort of heat shock to see if that did anything and it may have. Will have to replicate many more times to get a trend.

I bet it was just the time, I've never seen anyone take scope pics of their agar work. How are you doing it? Just a plate under a scope? Keep it up

Hard to say what triggered it, I did use more solution on this particular plate than the 2 others I inoculated a week before. I'll try giving them the heat shock I did with this and if something happens then i may be on to something.

And yeah I got a cheap little scope, goes up to 1000X but can't get past 250X with the Petri on it.

Also if anyone is interested, I came across a property called autocatalysis. This means that when a spores germinates and monokaryotic hyphae start searching for mates, exogenous proteins the hyphae exude induces germination in surrounding spores. That's how so many strains arise from only a few initial germinations.
