How important is consolidation for non pe varieties on grain?

You shouldn't be consolidating spawn

Hey everyone, so I had a grow infected with vert, but had a really nice fruitbody from the grow that I ended up cloning. Grew the clone out in a shoebox with a great 1st flush. 2nd flush had the vert show up again.

Is the vert infecting this culture or did I just get unlucky again?

If the culture is infected with vert, would the spores from the cloned fruits also have it?

Could I use the spores from this last flush infected, or do I need to go back to the 1st gen spores?

Grains should be fully colonized.  It's desired to expand mycelium while it's rapidly expanding.  Consolidating grain spawn can create a blob that is hard to break up.

Consolidation is for fruiting substrates.  Nutrient needs of mycelium colonizing are higher than they are for same mycelium in it's fruitng state.  Extra nutrients are consumed giving substrate a lower nutrient load during fruiting which results in more fruits, and less mutants when mycelium is allotted to consolidate a substrate.

Nah man, still learning to identify edibles from the woods... Don't know em all yet....I just like to be in the woods and the mushrooms I find there are a bonus, especially if they are an edible variety thats clone worthy

Hypsizygus was a vague answer.  There are all kinds of Hypsizygus mushrooms.  Hypsizygus ulmarius is elm oyster.

I agree, it's a coincidence that consolidating PE spawn lead to zero first flush blobs.

It could very well be hypsizygus ulmaris...color and gills look damn near identical...wish I could find a fresh specimen..they're always partially dried out by the time I find them...maybe I'll clone it and grow it out to confirm if it is or isn't an elm oyster
