I'm curious about slants too...
Can I not put a plate I want to keep using in the fridge? Or how can I keep the same genetics going? Keep grain to graining forever? Transfer my master to 10 jars, save the best one out of them, spawn the rest to bulk, grain to grain that great one to ten more, rinse and repeat?

Cakes are best fruited as cakes in a SGFC, you can keep plates in the fridge for a few months but they will dry up eventually, slants with a peice of wood inside can be kept longer. When you pull from the master slant and transfer to a new plate to grow out make a new slant as well. I wouldn't expand via grain to grain more than a couple times due to the possibility of senescence.

I just don't understand yet how say I have a tub that performs great, potency great, yield great, wanna keep doing that. Do I take a clone from that tub? Or is it the plate I inoculated with that performed so well?
Hard to say what I'm asking

Is this good growth? This is the first GT plate I took transfers from a few days ago. The transfers are small but quite pretty looking aswell.

My first BRF jars ever are being colonized right now. I think I have a few weeks to plan ahead the fruiting phase.
My question is : is there anything I can do to maximise the yield? My first plan was to simply fruit them as cakes. Could someone point me some stuffs I could do? Like casing maybe?
I've got 4 jars.
Thank you very much, have a nice day
Step one: learn agar Step two: learn bulk.
For what you have you can crumple your cakes up and spawn to bulk (step 2)
What I would do is fruit them as cakes in a sgfc and then clone you healthiest fruit (step 1)
Edit: I see a bunch of people already answered this and it did not show up for some reason till I replied
Apologies

Thanks man.
I was most excited for the Koh Samui but if plates are any representation of the final product (I know it likely) then the GT is gonna be off the chain.
Once I have clean spawn via agar, is an ounce a quart pretty much guaranteed? I just couldn't imagine really getting 5,6,7 ounces off one tub.

Guaranteed? No i used to use bigger tubs and used 8 quarts. Best i did was 10 on first flush.
A good goal is 2 per quart

I usually average around 1.5 ounce per quart with a Treasure Coast substrain using MS.
Give them a good growing environment, regardless if they're a clone, isolate or MS and they'll reward you with abundance.

My son hasn't a check up appointment a few hours out of town today so I'm gonna search for agar. Had to borrow someone's car because mines a POS, hope I can find something cheap. Wish me luck.

so I just watched this badass video on rye grain jars and I've been doing pf tek jars since I began. My question:
Does the aluminum foil come off after I inject once they're out of the cooker? I have been keeping it on. I don't have tyvec or anything on there. It's just two small holes that I use for injection.
I saw him take off the aluminum foil in the video and talk about FAE for the mycelium. He had tyvec on there though. could this be why my jars are taking several weeks to colonize??

Jars should take a couple of weeks. If they are contaminated they can take a lot longer. If you dont have a filter to allow for GE it will take longer

Do I want 0.2 or 0.5 micron bags?how much does 1 bag hold vs jars?
Also I don't have a "sealer" can I make do without?
Also can they be reused?

Been using the 19x8 .2 micron bags. They hold 4-5 full quarts, enough for one tub. The .2 can do presealing, helpful for doing three runs a day because they're sealed they can be stored for weeks before use.
I love the sealer, but used zip ties for months and it works, but I would get a sealer down the road if you can't now.
I have heard it said they can be reused once but I wouldn't

Hey guys, I'm sure some of you are familiar with Hamilton Morris from vice, well his web program "Hamiltons Pharmocopia" has turned into a full hour long show on the new vice tv station Viceland, new episodes every Wednesday. This week his episode was on mushrooms, and he visits a few places and trips with a Shaman. In this episode he also is invited into a "clandestine grow operation" who is supposedly pulling 10# a month with monotubs , a glove box and no pour agar, I think you guys might get a kick out of this and maybe even a guessing game on which shroomery member it is that invited him to see their grow. One of them is a chick. Besides the monotub grow he visits he also goes hunting and discusses species not talked about on the boards a whole bunch. Anyways if any of you saw it I would love to hear what you think, or watch it and tell me what you think. Here is a link to the episode trailor, If I find a link to the full episode I will post that too.
