Miracle mike you're a badass dude I hope you find some rubbing alcohol somewhere they don't have first aid supplies at the grocery store in Russia?
This dude uses 90% ethanol to clean his SAB. In Mother Russia, we get shit done

In Soviet Russia.. well you know..
There is even no "Rubbing alcohol" page for Russian wikipedia. But we have alot of skin lotions here (about 70-90% ethanol). This is the common and the main drink for homeless and poor guys here. Sometimes they drop dead cause someone decide to make money from counterfeit lotions made of methanol.

I don't know what difference is between isopropyl and ethanol, surely ethanols fine I just thought it would be more expensive.
In America they "denature" (add chemicals like gasoline) a lot of ethanol so people don't try to drink it. Some still do.

It's easier to get ethanol here, than iso. I can buy ethanol almost in every store exept for kids. You can buy 300ml for less than 50 cent. And they never add anything to it so people can safely consume it.

Ethanol should also be diluted to 70% it works the same as isopropyl

Wow. That's much cheaper than I thought.
What kind of mixtures are they, any 70% alcohol or close?

We don't have iso here either. I buy big 1 liter bottles of 96% ethyl alcohol and get it to 70% by mixing it with distilled water in a condiment bottle that I use for sterile work. I did the maths and shit in the past and used to measure it exactly (fuck that) but now I just simply fill the condiment bottle till a mark I made with a sharpie that corresponds more or less accurately with the exact amount of 96% alcohol needed, so that by filling the rest of the bottle with distilled water you get ~70% alcohol. 70% alcohol is more effective for killing bacteria than higher percentages btw in case you didn't know.
You don't even need to be very accurate mind you, anywhere from 60 to 80% is good. Also ethyl alcohol is as good a disinfectant as isopropyl, if not better (I think I read).

It's vary from 70 to 90%. But anyway I prefer to buy "Aseptoline" which is 90% ehanol coz I wanna be sure it is ethanol and not some methanol shit. It's about $1 for 100ml. IMO not to much for your safety.

That's expensive man, I get 1 liter for 1,2 euros. I wouldn't even be using alcohol if I had to get it at that price. Sanitizing with alcohol is very recommended but not essential for doing sterile work with success.

You can buy 10g of dried mushrooms for about $50 in darknet here. It is about 10 to 20 times cheaper to prodice it for your own so I can afford it. I'm not a commercial grower, I'm doin it for fun.

Ethanol is whiskey, isopropyl alcohol is rubbing alcohol and is poisonous to use internally. That's why ethanol is used to make extracts for consumption.

They add some nasty excipients to the ethanol sold for medical purposes to make it unpalatable and poisonous too. No idea why some countries only sell iso and others ethanol.

Hey guys what do you guys think of this? I thought I messed up my recipe for PDA and was just getting weak/aerial mycelium growth and was going to transfer to MEA today but now one of the plates went from this
 To this
Is this contamination? I have 3 more plates like this
Should I transfer any of them? Are they all screwed? The two ther plates look like this one still. I thought since my PDA was off or mixed poorly that I was just getting retarded growth but now I'm unsure if its more then that after the way this plate one looks. I keep scouring the search functions but most post are missing the pictures

Canharo, are you using a permeable plastic to wrap the edges of your Petri dishes with?

I used glad wrap and double wrapped like I saw on bods agar thread, maybe I should only wrap once or maybe wrapped a little more then I thought? Im using pyrex petris instead of the plastic ones if that matters

I've heard the plastic petris have those little steps on them to keep the lid raised and allow for a little GE and glass petris don't have them
I use glass petris and haven't had a problem yet. I wouldn't think that would be an issue for at least two weeks
