Do you mean because it was exposed to light or just because of the light behind the plate?

I think he means like a circadian rhythm type thing. Growth is different at night than during the day

That's a possibility with the ones like that I have seen. I might have to try an experiment to see if that's what does it. I'll try to find a plate with growth like that and grow a plate exposed to light and dark and one only in the dark.
I'm just happy to know it isn't a bad sign.

There is also other stuff that goes along with light and dark like temperature, so try to control for that if you want to run that experiment

I stopped getting those rings once I started storing all agar work in a closed drawer instead of exposed to 12/12 light from a grow or ambient light from a window

I stopped getting them when I cleaned my cultures up my temps are pretty constant though. I even keep them right under the window sometimes.

Temp is a pretty steady 73f that's why you don't see a ton of condensation anymore.
But in all actuality none of those variables have changed. same light, same temp.
I keep them in a insulated lunch box with the top open, because I was having issues with condensation. That's the only change that has been made.
Those plates are only 5 transfers away from germination plate. None before have had rings.

I have heated up a blank pasty plate in the microwave to melt it for a hot pour. Just make sure it's good and hot

That's a great idea for me to try? What if I wrap some Ziploc pints in foil and pc em for 30 minutes? Would they be sterile?
Edit: did it help with condensation? Do pp5s condensate and pool cause they are so tall?

All plastic containers even plates produces condensation. Temp fluctuations since plastic isnt a good insulator. Glass = less condensation.

So wm half pints= less condensation?

I personally let my pc cool completely and don't worry about any condensation. You are, asking to be spoon fed here. Do some reading

Actually bud, now that I think about it. That was a little insulting. You don't know what I'm doin, or how hard I'm trying to figure out this shit. So far I've noticed your advice is a little weak. Thanks for nothin brother

I almost never have issues with condensation. I pour 20 plastic petris at a time, and stack them as I pour them so that the newly poured plate sits on the last plate that was poured and keeps the top surface warm to prevent condensation. You want to get the timing right so that you are pouring just before the agar gets too thick to pour.
I pour in front of a flow hood, so I let the hood run for an extra 30 minutes after pouring. This pushes a very small amount of air through the sides of each plate and removes some condensation that forms along the sides. Alternatively you can let the plates sit unwrapped as a stack of 20 in a SAB for, say, 24 hours before wrapping. That will allow some extra moisture to escape through the sides of the plate. Then wrap, and slide them back into the sleeve they came in and tape shut. Be mindful that a warm plate with a lid exposed to a cooler temp room will produce condensation on the lid. So don't stack a plate on top of another plate that is colonizing because the warmth created by the lower plate will cause the top plate to form condensation.
