Re: Cultivation General Discussion [Re: Boogieman47]

Hey so I have a question about potency, because in the past I never had issues with that.

So I used to grow a few years ago, and I always had bomb ass results. The one time I did a 3.5 (of the gnarliest fuckers I could find) I had a 4.5 level trip. Most of the time I stuck to 2-2.5, and I would have very good closed eyed visuals and even some intense open eyed ones.

Now I never considered I was quite lucky at the time with the genetics lottery, I just assumed I had done it right.

My most recent tubs, that started with MS from an unknown variety that a friend gave me (look pretty normal for cubes, veil stays attached to the stem quite often, odds are B+ but who the fuck knows), have been noticeably less potent. I had done only small amounts (1.3 and such) , but after a friend told me they were weak, I did a dose of 2.2 on a pretty empty stomach in a shot of lemon juice. While a body high came quite quickly and powerfully, there was little psychedelia, which was disappointing.

The first two tubs that these came from were from MS to grains, and then one of those jars to other grains. The agar plates I did also were from a kernel of my transfer jar (the one that looked the best) and have since been quite isolated into some nice growing agar plates.

Currently I have quite a few jars readying up for my next tubs from the agar work I've done, MS isolates and one batch I cloned from a cluster of my biggest fruits from tub 2.

Are these new batches likely to be more potent due to cloning and the agar work I've done, selecting the best sections of the mycelium? It would be a shame to continue growing some weaker stuff, but what's done is done.

I'm thinking of next flush of getting some spores and starting new on agar plates, that in theory is a reset of the genetics, correct? Does growth speed and rhyzomorphicness indicate potency strength as well? Finally, does it sound more like I have weak shrooms now based on the dosages or that I had particularly powerful stuff back then?

Thanks!

I thought it was down to genetics but this argument has been going on since the beginning of time

I know it all comes down to genetics, but if these MS genetics were overall weak, but with agar I improved them, should I expect the same potency or a bit more. Either way, I guess I'll find out soon enough

But thats what im saying, the argument! 'Its all down to genetic' verses 'Its the conditions they grow in'

There are some great old debates with RR and others about this.  I will try to find them, well worth a read.

I have had low potency B+ from ms, but I have also had really fucking killer ones as well. IMO the best thing to do would be to isolate a few different sets of genetics, fruit them all out on a small scale (enough to test) and keep the genetics that you like. Once you have something good, keep it. I have a B+ monoculture that is quite potent and grows nice size mushies, the only drawback is its slow as hell. I am currently looking for a faster one that has the potency and size as well.

It is my understanding that low potency genetics can happen with any ms grow of any variety. Isolation is the way to get what you want, but it will take a few tries to find what your looking for.

Wow that must have been an old ass post, I ain't grown B+ in years lol, I don't even have any cultures left, they all got replaced. However I stand by my statement. Clone or isolate then test for potency. Once you find something good grow it.

Ive been using cotton bud(sterilised in pressure cooker) as advised by a cheapskate TC a few years back and never really had a problem.  However after a recent verbal disagreement with a fellow hobbyist I decided to buy one........  Shut the windows and bolt the door!

It was only $3

The equipment you use in the SAB insnt that important.  Its being sterile and precise that gets results

I finally bought this baby after a lot of suffering

And in the instructions says to fill the pc with 2 or 3 inches of water which will inevitably submerge the jars.
Is there a problem if the quart jars get submerged like one inch or more in the water? The jars I'll be using are regular quart mason jars which are fairly tall, my guess is that they'd be ok even if they get submerged?

Totally fine, I have the same PC and jars.
They sit a few inches in the water by the time all of the jars are loaded.
As long as they aren't floating, go for it.

If you are PCing short jars for some reason in the future, load the bottom rack with 5 or so quarts without lids and fill them with enough water to keep them from floating.
Then just put the short jars on the top rack on top of the quarts.

So yours is also a 941? How the hell are you supposed to fit 19 quart jars in the pc? I mean, this thing is big af but I couldn't fit 19 jars like it says in the instructions. How many jars are you able to load?

I just realized I have the 930 model (30 quart).

I think I can fit 14 total, 6 around the edges and 1 in the middle of each rack.
You can also fit a few pint jars in, in addition to the quarts.
Couple resting on the top quarts, etc.
I'll have to check later, it's in use at the moment :awesomenod:

I'll figure this shit out, I used to be good at tetris:hehehe: Maybe I need to place the jars on the second rack sideways, we'll see.
