Man I think someone stole my millet off my doorstep from amazon, says delivered yesterday but I never got that shit. This is like my fifth order so I know itโ€™s not the seller plus it had tracking. Theyโ€™re gonna be disappointed when they open the box unless theyโ€™re a bird-loving thief

How much millet do you order and how much do you pay? I'm assuming it's for G2G masters? I can buy it from grocery stores in the health food section for like $4/lb. But usually if I want grain masters I'll just swirl around WBS in my colander and it only spits out the millet and sorghum.

re: senescence

Changing your media won't undo senescence since senescence is the culture going through enough cell division to weaken it overall. Ideally, we want the youngest culture possible because, well, it's young and will perform better. This is why we store mycelium in culture slants because we can slow down the aging process, so to speak. And when we need it again, we take a tiny sliver of the "young" mycelium from the slant and grow it out onto new plates, effectively keeping the stockpile of younger mycelium in pseudo-stasis (it still grows in the fridged slant).

But AFAIK, we're not 100% sure on a lot of things going on there. But changing media composition or media altogether is said to give it more vigor, and again, what is 100% happening there is beyond me. In my layman's understanding, the mycelium gets bored and lazy and we switch it up. It's above my pay grade.

Personally, I've never noticed my agar growth slowing down so much over time that I'm experiencing what I would call senescence (although I don't go 25+ transfers in).

However, I've expanded a clone via G2G around 5 times and by the 5th expansion, I noticed a sharp decrease in performance, e.g., my tubs contaminated at the end of each 2nd flush, the jars took longer to reach 100%, and spawn > harvest times had taken 8-12 days longer than earlier flushes. I can't simply drop a grain onto a new agar medium and make the genetics young again.

Here's a good thread on senescence: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24625937/fpart/all/vc/1

There a home security service that includes caneras by your doorbell. My friend let me watch some of the videos of the neighbor hood uploads and i was shocked at the amount of fake amazon people with their vests on stealing packages everyday. Also lots of people walk up to doors and jiggle the locks on different days same house. Fucking thieves are about.

This isn't a case of senesence, these plates are third or fourth transfer.

I bought a pound of LME a few years ago & split it into a pair of 16oz mason jars.  I recently finished the first jar & moved onto the second which had been sealed shut for at least three years.  That's when i noticed the change in growth.

I've got fresh LME ordered & will try some grainwater agar in the meantime, was just curious if anyone else had seen this firsthand.

Damn that's a nice deal, but it sucks that you got robbed in xmas, that's some pretty low shit.

My backyard is tweaker central, there's one of the hud housing units behind me. Then again, this whole town is tweakin. Every time I run to the store I see 5-10 people walkin down the street t-rex'in it up. The little group of houses I live in is pretty laid back since the guy across from us got evicted.

At this point I'm more worried about my sister and her little tweaker friends. I woke up the other evening after a nap and she was sitting in my living from with one of her spun out friends that I had never even met before. I flipped the fuck out.

Before that I didn't even really worry about locking the door if I was just running to the store or wasn't gonna be gone more than a couple hours. Now I don't even feel right not locking the door before bed.

Fuck I wish I could get away with that here. I've been looking for a place outside of town to move to. I hate having neighbors

@tryp yup that will work, any light malt should work.

It will work, you will get some sediment from the malt but it will work good. I get a little sediment with my PDA and it always works great

I've read that malt is the clearest option. I dont mind sediment but,it would,be nice to view my cultures from underneath

Yes, LME can go bad from what I researched before I bought it. When it starts clumping together, it's apparently no longer viable. I keep them in as small of jars as possible to limit the amount of oxygen around it.

Edit: I now believe this to be inaccurate. LME should keep indefinitely under optimal conditions.

You have to reseal the bag with as little air as possible after use. Close the bag very well and use a peg, then put the bag inside a ziploc bag and store it in a dry and cool place.

LME is very hygroscopic, meaning that is able to absorb moisture from the air like a madafokin bitch, which leads to clumping and solidifying to a rock-like consistency. Taking those simple precautions will take care of that.

You can keep it in good condition indefinitely this way.

Strange, as the bad LME is still loose powder.  Either way, I'll start with fresh ingredients & not worry about it.

That bag in the pic was opened 2 years ago. Expiration date long due. LME doesn't go bad, it can clump together, but you could in theory still use it, only that the moisture content in clumped-up LME can fuck with the measurements when you weigh it out.
