Burnout is right. If you don't shake the liquid it just pools at the bottom. But with an agar wedge, it's apparently best to wait because the myc has to crawl off the wedge onto grain before you can shake and distribute it. Otherwise you're just beating up myc before it has a chance to do anything.

Is it LI or LC you guys aren't shaking after inoculation?

LI right? Because we've already blended it up and shaking it is just beating it up more?

I'm pretty sure you shake after inoc with both, atleast I do, to further distribute inoculation points. I've always heard you don't shake with wedges.

You can shake with all 3...the only reason not to is if ya wanna judge your 30% to shake again

Right on guys.

I was just dropping a few wedges and using LI via blender tek and I remember mushboy talking about how he got yelled at for shaking after one of the liquid inoculation methods.

Thanks for the input guys.

I actually made a video of me working for the first time. But youtube is stupid and won't let me post it because of the music in the background. I could put a song over it but then you can't hear what I'm saying. I'll try again another time.

Also does tall skinny mushies indicate an FAE issue? I do have some meat ones but also getting a lot of tall skinny ones. I'll have to rig up a way for it to get some better air exchange. Anyone have any suggestions for good programmable timers? Something where I could turn the air on for a few minutes at a time.

Check out Hurricane Axial fan on Amazon. Cut a hole and mount it to the plastic blowing out. Set it on a timer to circulate the air out. Consider spores and venting a pipe outside so you’re not filling the rest of your place up with them

I accidentally ordered mini-petri dishes.

Anyone have any experience with these little guys?  I'm sitting here looking at them like I may be on to something.

They're great for mailing cultures on a plate.

They can be great if you use in vitro pins/fruit for cloning.

My grow plan is to clean up any variety on agar and then let it fruit, clone the largest and first forming pin, then use half of that cloned pin culture for growing (the other half gets put in the fridge for future storage).

If you use these small plates and transfer a clean piece of myc to them, they will colonize and pin in much less time than a regular sized plate...

So it's bullshit that shaking a wedge immediately is detrimental because it means the myc still has to recolonize the agar wedge before it leaps off?

If it's healthy mycelium it shouldn't matter. It recovers and starts colonizing stuff within 24 hours. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's happening.

One reason I see is to see if tams pop up.  Shouldn't be a problem if your technique is on point.

Yep i tested this a couple years ago, dropped about 1/4 plate and shook for a few jars...i mean all your doing is dropping something clean in a jar of grain:shrug:

Yea, it spreads inoculation points.  Stamets even recommends it in the GGMM, but I never do it.

This is why we use agar ...knock that paranoid shit off:lol:
Jk i dont bother to shake so i can judge the 30 % better and to boot the more inoculation points thing never really added up to faster colonizing with shaking a wedge

There's really no benefit.  Takes just as much time to colonize either way.
