On day 14 with 1:4 rye to cvg. This is creeper mycelium in a colonizing mono. I'm hoping to start fruiting. What do you think?

How big of an issue is chloramine in LC's. I use tap water for grain prep and agar and that usually works out ok. I just don't want to go buying distilled water unless I have to.

Shouldn't be an issue, but if you're worried about chlorine just let your water sit for 24hrs before use...I use well water with no problems

I use distilled for agar and lcs. My water is super hard. I land the clarity.
But I do mix distilled with grain soak water (tap) for my lcs sometimes.

Fill a jug or bottle with tap water, leave the lid askew for 24 hrs, bubbles will accumulate, tap the sides to release the chlorine gas bubbles, it's ready to go.

chloramine is different than chlorine. I don't think it works that way and we use chloramine here. Anyways got distilled water just in case. The ingredients I use for the cordyceps lc aren't cheap so why cheap out on a little water.

I know. Life would be easy if it was chlorine. looks like I'm boiling some potato for this LC. Guess who's having mashed potatoes.

You can put monopersulfate in water with chloramines and it will oxidize to chlorine

That's some nasty stuff, it creates dangerous byproducts compared to chlorine.

I do grain prep with tap but use distilled for everything else. I switched to distilled for agar and started having better results, so then I started using distilled for misting. Now I use distilled for my bulk prep even though that water is being boiled before I dump it in a bucket. I tried it for grain prep a few times but never noticed any difference.
I live in a big city with decent water. I drink from the tap. My girlfriend makes fun of me because I buy water for the fungus.

Same for me. Tap for grain soaks and distilled for everything else. I started to see better results.

Thanks dude. Would you say they are harder, as it's in the name, by harder I mean tough-resistant.
If tested: How much starch comes out of the grain, is the water saturated, or fairly clear?
----
Organic rye in boiling hot water soak (leave for 1 hour). Not much comes out, the water is fairly clear.
