I think you got the wrong end of the stick (pun intended), I was answering pacmanbreed's storage question. He asked if pegs can be used for storage, I was providing a yes with proof, because it works.
If the peg contains the same amount of malt extract as a wedge, why not? The peg is solid, easy to store in a vial, and easy to use.
All you need is sterilized metal tweezers.

Nice to see your doin what aleon thus in this thread. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19897438#19897438 less steps interms of vector for tubes usefull for cold intolerant species like my wild ganoderma. I feel added benefit is bacteria is also left on in the agar once it colonize the upright pegs. Ill try this using cubes together with regular slants as dual backup.

LizardWizard said: Except they can't be properly used for storage of cultures. That's why there is both agar and wood in a slant. AFAIK, the wood will protect the mycelium better because it's a 3D matrix instead of a 2D one, but it lacks the nutes; soaking it in trace sugars won't suddenly make it a nutrient rich substrate that gives nutrients off slowly like agar does, it's still a nutrient poor substrate that runs out quickly and is also too thin with toothpicks, to properly protect the mycelium.

So I got a question for you guys cause I've never ran into this before. I have a mini 32qt unmoved that got spawned January 3, and still no sign of pins. Everything smells fine, and no sign of other contamination. Anyone else run into really long fruiting times like this?

Is it worth keeping around? Temps were on the cool side for awhile (mid 60's). Under the psudocasing is fully colonized, and the top is still colonizing slowly.

Ah, temps under 65F slow growth. Looks a little dry too. Kick the temps up to 70-72 if possible, and give her a drink.

Temps are starting to be more stable around 72. It's just been a cold winter here, and the houses furnace has been working overtime to try and keep up. If it were bacterial wouldn't it still throw out some fruits? I figured if it were, it'd be trying to fruit as a last effort to reproduce before it went to shit.

Bacterial spawn is hit or miss. I've seen some pretty badass canopies from bacterial spawn, but all bacterial spawn gave me was a mold farm. Keep it around and keep an eye on it, no sense in dumping it if it's not going moldy unless you need the tub.

Crazy thought of the day, If I grow and dry some wheat, seeds and all. I can chop it, cram it into a jar sterilize it and inoculate with LC or agar and have an all in one substrate, grain and straw. Would probably be even better with a little hpoo mixed in too. Call it the farm blend bottle tek. Would be awesome if the proportions worked out perfect.

Well you definitely have the space to grow some wheat. I wonder how many lbs of wheat and straw you can get per acre, maybe eventually you can add that to your mushroom farm and become mostly self sustainable?

Just made a couple transfers from this PE plate. Does the transfer on the bottom look like the clear aggressive myc that people talk about?
IΒ΄m curious about the 5 oΒ΄clock transfer, maybe an update in a few days?
Ive been transfering that way for about 1-2 transfers from bacterial spores. Only difference is the transparent hypae is all around the colony circle forgot to take picture only seen by backlit. Ive added a marker below before sab work for easier targeting. It eventually subside on 3rd-4th transfer with uniform growth. But from your dish i feel that 7-1oclock is better & clean. All my dishes below came from 1-2 xfer from transparent mycelium growth away from spores. It Maybe usefull when working on dirty spores.
Anyway, Brothers are this ready for grains? Or is it advisable to do 1 more xfer to be safe?
Left is wedge, middle and right are biopsy of josex This are all 4th transfer from dirty spores same age. Hoping to grow that first shoebox

Blue Oysters starting to grow now! Still waiting on King Oysters to start. I'm thinking I might be keeping temps to high for King (70-72 F) any thoughts on that?
Also, pearls seem to have slowed down a bit, and some are aborting. What do you guys think is the problem here? Lack of FAE, humidity, not enough light? Currently I have 6500k light on 12 hours per day, Ultrasonic humidifier running 24/7 inside, and a fan blowing fresh air inside the GH 30 minutes on, and 30 minutes off. It's a 4x4 hydroponic tent, about 6' tall.

Turn off the devices. Let some moisture evaporate from the substrate.
